The Dallas Stars kicked off their homestand with a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders Saturday night. Now comes one of the biggest opponents on the homestand schedule, the reigning champs. The Stars will take on the Colorado Avalanche Monday night at the American Airlines Center. The Colorado Avalanche are currently in second place in the Central Division looking to reclaim the throne at the top of the division.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche Preview: 3. Give Benn the green light
Jamie Benn has been on one heck of a scoring streak this month and is currently number one in goals scored this month. Pete DeBoer needs to give Benn “the green light” to attack the net tonight. In the last game, it took the offense a bit to get going as the first Stars goal came in the second period. We probably won’t get that luxury tonight against the defending champs. Got to attack early and get them in the first frame.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche Preview: 2. Play defense
Once again, the Dallas Stars will see some familiar faces on the ice tonight. Former Dallas Stars player Valeri Nichushkin is second among goal scorers for the Colorado Avalanche currently. At the top of the scoring list for the Avalanche, we have Mikko Rantanen. The Stars have to be ready to play defense tonight. If any of these two players are left open in front of Oettinger, it will be a long night.
Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche Preview: 1. Let them know there’s competition for the throne
The Colorado Avalanche needs to learn that there will be a new division leader this season. They have already celebrated winning the Stanley Cup on the opening night of the NHL. If they desperately want to reclaim their throne at the top of the Central Division, they will have to go through Dallas in order to do that.
