Let us start calling the Dallas Stars the Cardiac Kids after last night. The Stars rallied from behind for a second straight game but lost to the Jets in OT 5-4. I’m really starting to get super concerned with our defenseman as this could have all been avoided. Where was that defense that shut down Connor McDavid and the Oilers last month? Jim Nill has got to start a preliminary search for some defenseman we can acquire in a trade. Here are the three takeaways from tonight’s game.

Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 3. Let the Bennaissance commence

I guess you can say we are in the middle of a Bennaissance right now. Jamie Benn found the goal once again pushing his total to nine goals this season. With the way he’s finding the net, he’s well on his way to becoming the NHL’s Most Improved Player this season. I don’t know what Peter DeBoer told him to motivate him but I’m loving every minute of the old Benn back.

Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 2. Robo sitting on his throne

Jason Robertson is just on a different level this season, that’s really all I have to say about him. Robertson set a new Dallas Stars point streak record at 14 surpassing Dave Gagner’s 13-game streak. He almost had a hat trick tonight as well if the puck didn’t hit the netting behind the net. What’s even more impressive is he took over at the end of the game and got two quick goals and sent us to overtime. NHL if you are reading this, just hand him the MVP trophy.

Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets Recap: 1. Defensive issues

While we had fun watching the team debut their Retro Reverses, we got to talk about the glaring defenseman problem. We can not be giving up four goals a night like this for the remainder of the season. Nill and DeBoer need to sit down and find a way to trade some of our defensemen. Scoring is not an issue with the team this season, it’s the defense and it needs to change soon.
