After being shut out against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night, the Dallas Stars look to get back on track. They can do that tonight against the Ottawa Senators at the American Airlines Center. With a St. Louis Blues win against the Jets and a Stars win against the Senators, the Stars can reclaim first place in the Central Division. Even though the Senators are in last place in the Atlantic Division, you can’t take them lightly. Here are the three keys to the game against the Senators.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 3. Cool down Brady Tkachuk

Tkachuk has seemed to improve from last season and it could be a concern for the Stars. If you take a look at the chart below, he’s been taking a lot of shots close to the net this season. Stars have to make sure that they cover him at all times tonight. They need to apply that same defense that they did against McDavid earlier this season. If they leave him open, it could be a very long night for the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 2. Start Wedgewall

Right now there is something going on with Jake Oettinger. He just doesn’t seem himself after the injury he sustained earlier this season. Deboer needs to start Scott Wedgewood for a bit to give Oettinger a break until they figure out what’s wrong with him. Wedgewood did help the Stars rally against the Minnesota Wild last Sunday in the third period. I’m confident that he can get the job done tonight against the Senators.

Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators Preview: 1. Elevate the puck

The one thing that the Stars need to work on tonight is elevating the puck while close to the net.  There were a lot of scoring chances last night that could have gone in the net if they just elevated the puck. I don’t know who will be starting in the net for the Senators tonight right now. Doesn’t matter if it’s Forsburg or Talbot, if they are on their back, elevate the puck over them for a goal.
