The Dallas Stars look to go into the brief Christmas break with a win over the Montreal Canadiens tonight. The Stars also look to not have a repeat of what happened on Wednesday night against the Oilers. The Canadiens are not going to make it easy on the Stars as they also lost in their last game as well. Hopefully, the Stars crowd can cheer them on to victory so that way their Christmas isn’t so depressing. Here are the three keys to the game for the Stars against the Canadiens.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens Preview: 3. Shut down Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield

Just like the Edmonton Oilers have their “Batman and Robin”, the Canadiens have theirs as well. Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki need to be shut down by our defense. They’re currently their top two goal-scorers right now and are a potential threat. If the Stars can shut down both of these two on Friday night, I’m feeling good about the Stars winning this game.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens Preview: 2. Start Oettinger

The Dallas Stars need to start Jake Oettinger in tonight’s game against the Canadiens. I know he has had multiple games this season where he has given up 4+ goals. As I mentioned in the postgame article against the Oilers, Goalie save percentages are down this season. It’s due to the amount of talent in the league this season. Oettinger’s save percentage is actually higher than the league average right now. You got to keep playing him if you are the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs Montreal Canadiens Preview: 1. Send them home along with the Cold weather with an L

Right now I’m sure the Canadian hockey teams in the league are getting some mean tweets due to the cold front that has come down from the north. There’s only one thing to do about that and that is to run up the score tonight. The Stars have got to press the net for rebounds. That is the one thing that they need to continue to work on and tonight is a perfect night to do it. Sometimes you just got to “elevate to celebrate” the puck past the goalie.
