I think Jake Oettinger better watch his back on the way back to the hotel tonight. He made a lot of Islander fans unhappy as he had a career game in his 100th career start as a goalie. The Dallas Stars would go onto win in the shootout and beat the New York Islanders 2-1. This game will probably in the top three that Oettinger has played so far in his early career. Even though the offense wasn’t going tonight, he made sure that they at least got a point by forcing OT.
With the Stars making overtime tonight and the Winnipeg Jets losing to the Detroit Red Wings, DeBoer is an All Star as well. He will be coaching the Central Division All Stars at the NHL All Star game this season. Let’s get to the three takeaways of the game tonight against the Islanders.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Recap: 3. Finally got that shootout win
When fans thought Dallas was not going to get a shootout win this season, Stars proved them wrong. Every time that the Stars would get to a shootout earlier in the season, Stars fans would turn the TV off. Pete DeBoer said after the game that the Stars needed that shootout win as a team. This was a huge confidence booster for the Stars after all their OT woes earlier this season. Let’s see if the Stars can pick up some more shootout wins down the road before the playoffs.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Recap: 2. Robertson comes up huge tonight
Jason Robertson proved once again tonight that he is a force to be reckoned with. Robertson buried that shot in the first period to get the Stars on the board. He also came up huge in the shootout as he got Ilya Sorokin to lower his glove and roofed his shootout attempt over it. He deserves to go to the All Star game in Florida this season and I can’t wait to see how he does in second half of the season this year.
Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders Recap: 1. Jake Oettinger was the reason for the win tonight
Jake Oettinger was the reason the Stars were even able to pull off the victory over the Islanders. With the offense struggling tonight, Oettinger put the team on his back creating highlight save after save to get the Stars at least a point. If he does not get voted into the All Star game in Florida this year, he will more than likely go down as the biggest snub. Based on how many shots he saved tonight, let’s see if he gets the nod at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night.
