When it looked like Roope Hintz wasted no time getting back in the swing of things early on, it looked like it was going to be a long night for the Sabres. However, the Dallas Stars would end up losing in overtime after Oettinger forgot to check his weak side for Owen Power. It wasn’t an overall bad night for the Stars going up against one of the top-rising Eastern Conference teams.  Let’s get into more about the three takeaways from the Stars’ loss to the Sabres tonight.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 3. Stars did lead in many categories

The Stars did lead in many categories tonight against the Sabres. The Stars did lead in: shot on goal, faceoffs, power play goals, hits, and blocks. The only thing that stung the Stars tonight was the fact they couldn’t capitalize on many opportunities on Craig Anderson. Even though he’s 41 years old, you have to give him credit for stopping many shot attempts from the Stars. It could have been a lot worse for the Sabres if he wasn’t on the top of his game tonight.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 2. Roope Hintz is back

It’s so glad to have Roope Hintz’s offense back in the lineup tonight. You could tell that the Stars missed his offense while he was out with an injury. His passing led to Jamie Benn’s tap-in goal on the power play in the first period. It was a smart thing by DeBoer to reunite the top line as the Stars couldn’t get a goal in the second period. I can’t wait to see how Hintz does against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 1. Got to win in OT

The Stars have got to start winning in OT for the remainder of the season. You have to start getting two points or else Winnipeg is going to jump us for the Central Division title. The Stars are 3-8 in OT this year including the loss last night. that’s eight extra points that the Stars could have over the Jets right now. The Stars have got to get better with 3v3 hockey or else it could cost them a Division title and a good playoff seed.
