This loss was just a hard pill to swallow if you are a Dallas Stars fan. Once again, the Stars end up losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime this season. It’s even worse that Martin Necas was the one who scored the overtime goal last night and in the first game against the Hurricanes as well. The Stars now have nine losses in overtime this season and they need to fix their overtime woes quickly. Here are the three takeaways from last night’s overtime loss to the Hurricanes.

Dallas Stars vs Carolina Hurricanes Recap: 3. Jason Robertson is on a heater

The Stars are very lucky to have Jason Robertson on his bargain-friendly contract. Robertson scored an incredible goal tonight that has Twitter buzzing. He scored a goal basically straight down the red line and I don’t blame Fredrik Andersen for trying to find the puck. That was his 33rd goal of the season tonight and it looks like Mike Modano’s record of 50 goals in one season is in jeopardy if he continues to score.

Dallas Stars vs Carolina Hurricanes Recap: 2. Wyatt Johnston had an amazing game despite the loss

Wyatt Johnston is another Dallas Stars player who had an amazing game despite the loss. He found a rebound off the face-off in the first period and buried it past Andersen to tie the game up. He almost gave the Stars the lead on a wrap-around goal attempt and it probably would have caused roof issues if the puck went in. This was far beyond his best game during his rookie season. Thank the lord we decided not to send him to the World Junior Championships.

Dallas Stars vs Carolina Hurricanes Recap: 1. Win in Overtime

The fact that we have nine overtime losses this season is concerning. Tonight, it looked like the Stars were all out of place and it ended up costing them early in overtime. The coaching staff needs to get back at the drawing board over the All-Star Break next week. With the offensive talent that the Stars have, we should be destroying teams in OT.

As I mentioned earlier this season, the Stars will regret not taking OT seriously if they lose the division title this season by a couple of points. All we can do now is hope the Stars can go into the All-Star Break on a high note by beating the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.
