The Dallas Stars are one game away from the All-Star break and they deserve the week off. However, before they can enjoy it, they need to exorcise the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Stars are going up against the second-best team in the Metropolitan Division. They have to deal with Jack Hughes and Dougie Hamilton tonight which will not be an easy task. Hopefully, the Stars don’t make it a third overtime game in a row tonight. Here are the three keys of the game for the Stars against the Devils.

Dallas Stars vs New Jersey Devils Preview: 3. Press them

The Stars need to do what they did against Nashville a couple of weeks ago. Pressing the Devils on defense might be the only shot the Stars have of slowing them down tonight. Jamie Benn was able to get a goal against the Predators. Hopefully pressing the Devils will give the Stars some turnover opportunities that will turn into goals on the other end.

Dallas Stars vs New Jersey Devils Preview: 2. Shut down Hughes and Hamilton

The Stars have many offensive weapons on the New Jersey Devils to stop tonight. Two of those weapons are Dougie Hamilton and Jack Hughes. Hughes leads the team in goals with 30 and Hamilton is a bit down the list with 13. The reason why I’m listing Hamilton is due to how hot he is in the scoring department right now. He has three goals in the two games for the Devils. The Stars have to shut them down if they want a chance to get a win before the week off.

Dallas Stars vs New Jersey Devils Preview: 1. Don’t end up in overtime

The Stars need to stay out of overtime against the Devils. If you watched the overtime against the Hurricanes on Wednesday, you know the Stars didn’t last long into the extra frame. The Stars can’t afford a third straight OT loss because it will really dampen the spirits of this team. The Stars need to have a good stretch after the All-Star Break in order to clinch their playoff spot.
