Right when you thought that the Dallas Stars were about to get at least one point against Calgary, Tyler Toffoli had other plans. Toffoli scored a breakaway goal with four seconds left in the third period to give them a 5-4 win over Dallas. Dallas looked lost on the ice at times tonight as they didn’t show up for the first half of the game. Once they finally decided to play midway through the second period, they decided to make it a game. Here are the three takeaways from the Stars’ loss to Calgary.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Recap: 3. Stars going through the motions against a non-playoff team

The Stars seem to have issues playing against non-playoff teams this season. They feel like they can go out on the ice and “skate through the motions.” This is how not to get ready for the playoffs starting mid-April. I don’t care if the team is basically eliminated from the playoffs already, you go out there on the ice for 60 minutes and give them a piece of your mind. With the way the defense played here tonight, it could be a very short playoff run for the Stars this postseason.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Recap: 2. Stars have to consider bringing Thomas Harley down in Cedar Park

I know some Stars’ fans don’t think he is ready for the jump this season, but the Stars have to consider bringing him up. Jani Hakanpaa and Ryan Suter were the two defensemen on the ice for that game-winning goal last night for the Flames. Thomas Harley wouldn’t fix the Stars’ defensive issues completely on his own, but he would be a start to fixing that issue. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring him up to see if he can be a part of the playoff taxi squad if there are any injuries.

Dallas Stars vs Calgary Flames Recap: 1. I’m concerned about Wedgewood

The Stars need to find out sooner or later if Wedgewood will be returning to the Stars this season. His injury has me concerned for many reasons. One of those reasons is Jake Oettinger isn’t getting his normal rest as he should be in the second half of the season. The last thing that the Stars need is for Oettinger to be tuckered for the first round of the playoffs. I know Matt Murray is a good backup goaltender but they will need a seasoned one for a deep playoff run.
