Do you remember the scene in Top Gun: Maverick where they fire all the missiles from the carrier to bomb the airfield to stop the enemy? I think the blown-up airfield is what represented the KeyBank Center after the final horn sounded. The Dallas Stars had their way all night as they won 10-4 over the Buffalo Sabres. When I wanted the offense to score last night, I wasn’t expecting nine different players to have a goal. Here is what you missed from Thursday night’s massacre.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 3. You get a goal! Everyone gets a goal!
Last night’s offense reminded me of that episode of Oprah where she was like “You get a car! You get a car! Everyone gets a car!!!” Nine different scorers provided goals last night against the Sabres. One of the most surprising goal scorers last night was Ryan Suter. I’m not trying to put down Ryan Suter here, but he never drops toward the goal in the offensive zone. I was actually happy he got his second goal of the season. I just want to see more of this as the season winds down.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 2. Stars Defense smothered them
The Stars were able to tame Tage Thompson from scoring a goal last night. That is the second straight game where he has been held scoreless. Even though Thompson finished with two assists on the night, I’ll count this as a victory. I liked how the Stars responded after they scored to get back in the game. That’s how the defense needs to play around playoff time in April. With how hard they played tonight, I’m concerned we might not get a good defense against Seattle on Saturday.
Dallas Stars vs Buffalo Sabres Recap: 1. Wyatt Johnston could surprise some people
I hope the Calder Trophy voters have been watching Wyatt Johnston recently. With his 16th goal tonight, he is three goals from catching Seattle’s rookie Matty Beniers for the top rookie goal scorer. I hope Wyatt Johnston drinks all the Red Bull his heart can take over these next couple of weeks. We have three games against the Kraken in the next two weeks. I would love to see him pass Beniers during any of these games to impress the voters.
