The Dallas Stars are in the race for the Central Division crown against the Colorado Avalanche. To close out the season, they have back-to-back games against the St. Louis Blues. On Wednesday night the Stars won round one against the St. Louis Blues 5-2.

It was kind of a rough start for the Stars as the Blues responded quickly each time they scored in the first period. In the second period, is when the Stars took off and beat them to the ground. Let’s take a look at how the Stars did last night against the St. Louis Blues.

Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap 3. Way too many breakaways

The Stars’ defense gave up way too many breakaways tonight to the St. Louis Blues. That is really concerning considering the playoffs are right around the corner. I can tell you right now teams like the Vegas Golden Knights and the Colorado Avalanche would have scored goals on many of those breakaways last night. They need to clean that up because that could be the difference between advancing in the playoffs or hitting the golf courses early this summer.

Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap 2. Cashing in on the power play

The Stars did a good job of making the Blues pay for committing penalties last night. After not scoring on the first power play, the Stars went on to score on three straight power plays which included the double minor for high sticking. They finished three for five on the power play by the end of the game. This is going to be one of the Star’s strong suits going into the playoffs this season. Let’s just hope the power play continues to roll going into the first round next week.

Dallas Stars vs St. Louis Blues Recap 1. Miro stands alone at the top

Miro Heiskanen has finally established himself as one of the best defensemen in Star’s history tonight. He passed Sergei Zubov for most points by a defenseman in a season with 72. He also broke Craig Hartsburg’s record for most assists by a defenseman with 62. He also tied Reijo Ruotsalainen for the most points by a Finnish player with 73. 2017 has turned out to be a very good draft by the Stars organization, some might say it’s the best in franchise history.
