Dallas Stars push the Minnesota Wild to the brink of elimination
I really don’t have anything negative to say about tonight’s game at all. I mean from start to finish the Dallas Stars get a 100 from me if I was their professor. That was textbook playoff hockey to a T and didn’t see really anything wrong at all. Yes, they gave up a breakaway to start the game but after that it was flawless. The Stars won game 5 against the Minnesota Wild 4-0 behind Jake Oettinger’s 27-save shutout. They didn’t let the Wild get into their heads and played Texas Hockey on home ice.
Now the biggest test of the season is on Friday night. The Dallas Stars can advance and play the winner of the Colorado Avalanche Seattle Kraken series with a win in game 6. However, The Wild will come out swinging on Friday. They don’t want their season to be over with so I expect the Stars to come out with the same energy as they did tonight. Let’s take a look at the three takeaways from tonight’s game.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 3. Radek Faksa has a solid defensive game
I think you could hear a pin drop in the American Airlines Center when Radek Faksa took a knee from Marcus Foligno. I thought that was the end of his season when both their knees collided early on in the first period. It was a sigh of relief when he got back into the game and had one of his best defensive performances of the night. I’m glad his knee is alright and good to go for game 6.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 2. Tyler Seguin sparked the fuse
Once again Tyler Seguin stepped up in Joe Pavelski’s absence on the power play and opened up the scoring tonight. The Stars went on the power play due to the five-minute major/misconduct from Foligno. They needed to get something going and Seguin did just that eight seconds into the five-minute power play. Hopefully, Pavelski can take some extra time to get better with Seguin stepping up.
Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild Recap: 1. The man who carries this team on his shoulders
I seriously have no words for Mr. Jake Oettinger tonight. The man was solid for an entire 60 minutes and made sure the Stars came away with the victory. I hope Jim Nill reads this but he has to hammer out the framework of Oettinger’s extension soon.I don’t want to wait until the last second to give him an extension.
I’m not saying sign him tomorrow, Just get the average per year and length figured out so when he’s able to sign, it won’t take more than five minutes to get his signature on the extension. Add in a creative signing bonus while you’re at it like a new set of golf clubs and a round at Pebble Beach.
