As I mentioned in the article this morning, the Texas Stars lost a lot of players in the first few days of free agency. Out of all my years of following the Dallas Stars AHL affiliate, I’ve never seen so many players leave the team after a season. Jim Nill decided to start filling in those vacancies this weekend by signing some AHL veterans to help guide some of the rookies that will be making the team next season. Let’s take a look at some of the moves Jim Nill made over the weekend.
Dallas Stars sign Nick Caamano to a one-year two-way contract
The Dallas Stars signed forward Nick Caamano to a one-year two-way contract this past weekend. Caamano was injured during the first four months of last season. After he was cleared to play, he posted two goals and nine assists during the regular season with the Texas Stars.
During the postseason run, he was tied for most goals scored with four. This is a good signing considering he does have AHL experience under his belt. He should be able to help rookies as they navigate their rookie year in Cedar Park. He is also protected as well from waivers if he’s called up to Dallas due to injuries.
Dallas Stars sign Scott Reedy to a one-year two-way contract
The Dallas Stars also signed forward Scott Reedy to a one-year two-way contract as well this weekend. The Stars got him in a trade for Jacob Peterson at the deadline last season. While he was with the San Jose Barracuda, he recorded five goals and eight assists with them.
With the Texas Stars, he recorded six goals and four assists during the remainder of the regular season. he added another goal and assist during the Calder Cup Playoffs. I really like this signing because he’s protected from waivers in case Dallas has any injuries to their forwards this season. He can also be a valuable veteran in that very young Texas Stars locker room next season.
Dallas Stars sign Derrick Pouliot to a one-year two-way contract
Dallas Stars also added a veteran AHL defenseman as well on July 4th. They signed San Jose Barracuda defenseman Derrick Pouliot to a one-year two-way contract next season. He played 37 games for them last season where he racked up four goals and 21 assists.
He also played eight games with the San Jose Sharks last season where he recorded two assists as well. What I like about him is he’s played in the NHL and has experience. He’s played 221 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Vancouver, St. Louis, Vegas, Seattle and San Jose. A lot of the Texas Stars rookies could learn a lot from him and that’s why he’s a valuable asset to the Texas Stars.
