Former Dallas Stars goalie, Ben Bishop, was getting paid by the Buffalo Sabres. When July 1st, 2023 hit, he was officially ready to look for work again. Of course, the Stars jumped right on that by hiring him as their Player Development Coordinator.

What will Ben Bishop be doing now that he’s working for the Dallas Stars?

Just because he was on the Sabres’ payroll last season, doesn’t mean he wasn’t already thinking ahead about being hired in this role. He stated in a recent story on the Dallas Stars’ website that he was already researching a few of their prospects and even watched a few of their games during his own last season with the Sabres.

This is great news for both the Stars and Bishop, but many people are wondering what he’ll actually be doing in his brand-new role. According to Sports Management Worldwide, here is what a Player Development Coordinator actually does and focuses on:

"“…the process of bringing in new players into your team and developing them into higher level hockey players that can compete at the next level and advance in their hockey playing careers.”"

Basically, what Ben Bishop will be doing is really dialing in on all of the Dallas Stars prospects that are skating in their 2023 Development Camp that most recently happened. While he was a former goalie, that does not mean that he will only be working with goalies. He enjoys working with and helping develop all sorts of different players from their prospect team; he’s not trying to make great goalies, he’s trying to make great players in the game of hockey. His goal is to get all of these guys ready to play in the NHL to live out all of their most beloved childhood dreams!
