Less than a month ago, Jim Nill was named and awarded GM of the Year with the Dallas Stars. In the 2022-2023 season, the Dallas Stars advanced into the Western Conference Finals of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Today the Dallas Stars have officially announced that they will be extending Nill’s contract with them as their GM and cannot wait to continue to work with him in the future!
Congrats to Jim Nill on his GM of the Year award and work with the Dallas Stars!
Just today, it was announced that the Stars have extended their contract with Nill to last through the 2025-2026 season (and who knows about anything beyond that as well). He just finished his 10th season with the Stars and has definitely proven himself within that time frame.
In terms of his extended future with the Stars, Jim Nill stated that he’s hoping to begin working on some sort of succession plan with owner Tom Galardi.
Since Jim Nill has spent tons and tons of time with the Dallas Stars, in celebration of his contract being extended and the GM of the Year award being won, let’s take a look at some of his top moments with the franchise!
1. 2017 NHL Draft First Round
Players: Miro Heiskanen (F) and Jake Oettinger (G)
Picking and drafting Heiskanen was quite possibly one of Dallas’ best moves in franchise history. In his very first season on the team, he scored 12 goals and had 21 assists. Since then and to this day, he has continued to prove himself. When it comes to Oettinger, we all know that he’s good and we truly do hope that he will continue to make some pretty sick saves this upcoming season!
2. 2017 NHL Draft Second Round
Player: Jason Robertson (F)
In his first season with the Stars, he only played in 3 games, so it’s not really fair to judge him on that; however, every year/season following that, he improved by a mile. Just this past 2022-2023 season, Robertson scored 46 goals and had 63 assists through all 82 games. In the season before that, he had the eighth-most goals in the league and the twelfth-most points in the league.
3. 2018 Free Agency
Player: Joe Pavelski (F)
Pavelski is an absolute beast in the playoffs, let’s just start there. The Stars took a chance on him for his age; but at 34 years old, Pavelski surely proved himself and continues to do so with each and every season that he plays in. According to The Hockey Writers, “During the 2020 playoffs, Pavelski scored 13 goals in 27 games including multiple late game-tying goals.” Go, Joe, Go!!
That’s a wrap! Once again, our most congratulations to Mr. Jim Nill! We love you, Jimmy!
What do you think of Jim Nill’s contract being extended? Does he deserve the title of GM of the Year? Let’s talk about all of Nill’s best moves with the Dallas Stars! Cheers to next season, y’all!!
