The Dallas Stars are well stocked with all their positions throughout the minor league system. They got so many good players that it stinks that we might never get to see all the talent that we have. From Logan Stankoven to George Fegaras, the Stars have it all. One position that sometimes changes from time to time is the goalies. The Stars have been shuffling goalies for the last decade. Let’s take a look at the goalies that we know are under contract and will play in the minor leagues this season.
Dallas Stars AHL Goalie Prospects: Matt Murray
Let’s start off with one of the goalies that we got to see up with the Stars last season, Matt Murray. Murray posted a 23-13-5 record and a .911 save percentage with the Texas Stars during the regular season and playoffs.
The reason why his record during the regular season was so low was he was called up to the NHL when Scott Wedgewood got hurt. Dallas Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer didn’t trust him so thats more than why Jake Oettinger hit the fatigue wall during the playoffs. He will more than likely be your starting goaltender in Cedar Park unless there is an injury up in Dallas with Wedgewood or Oettinger.
Dallas Stars AHL Goalie Prospects: Bryan Thompson
This is a goaltender that the Stars just recently signed this week. Bryan Thompson is the former goaltender of the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL. Thompson finished his career with the Hurricanes with a 59-42-5 record, 3.06 goals against average, and a .901 save percentage in 117 appearances with them. The Texas Stars did bring him in on an amateur tryout contract near the end of the season last year. I expect him to be the backup to Matt Murray with the Texas Stars next season.
Dallas Stars ECHL Goalie Prospects: Remi Poirier
This is a goalie that I think has a future with the Stars in their organization. Poirier finished the ECHL regular season with a 19-2 record with a .928 save percentage. We also Poirier up with the Stars last season as well. He deserved it after being the ECHL Goalie of the Month in December and January last season. I think he will do a good job being the starting goaltender for the Steelheads next season.
There is one more spot available in the ECHL that the Stars could send down there. I don’t know if we will bring over Maxim Mayorov or Arno Tiefensee for training camp this year. It will be interesting to see as we get closer to training camp this year if the Stars will fill that vacant spot or if Idaho will sign someone to that spot. All I know is that the Stars have a bright future with all the goalie talent we have right now.
