We are almost five weeks away from the beginning of preseason hockey. Fans can see the light at the end of the tunnel as the offseason comes to a close. One thing that never stops even during the offseason is rumors of signings or trades. This summer according to Editor-in-Chief of the Fourth Period David Pagnotta, it is rumored that the Dallas Stars are still interested in signing Patrick Kane this season.

That would be a huge signing for the Stars as they look to return to the Western Conference Finals next season and finally advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. Patrick Kane would give us another good veteran like Matt Duchene as they look to form multiple scoring lines. Kane would really fit in well on Tyler Seguin’s line with Matt Duchene. It might not get us a lot of goals compared to if this line was formed in 2014 at the prime of their careers.

The most I would probably sign Patrick Kane to would be a one-year for a million dollars. It would be a huge gamble that could pay off dividends for the Dallas Stars. Just imagine for a second that Duchene and Kane have massive seasons with the Stars. We would have a stacked roster in the NHL this season that you could only build in Create-A-Team in the NHL Video games. It could even take us all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals if this pays off.

However, I don’t really see the Stars going after Patrick Kane even though it would be nice. They would have to make a trade in order for it to happen since they basically got the entire roster filled out for next season already. Unless a team wants Craig Smith or Radek Faksa, I just don’t see how the Stars could add Kane to the roster.

Also, it would block the potential of adding Logan Stankoven or Mavrik Bourque to the roster next season if either one were ready for the big leagues. If the Stars were to consider Kane, they would probably wait until after training camp in case the top prospects weren’t ready and needed time in Cedar Park before getting called up.

I hope Patrick Kane does find a team to play for this season that isn’t in the Central Division (Colorado Avalanche) unless it’s with Dallas. I think he has a couple more years in the tank left before he retires and gets voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. I just hope that Jim Nill can use his magic to fit Kane into a team that is ready to make another deep playoff run.
