What does the Jordie Benn signing mean for the Dallas Stars?

We have had a lot of defensemen join the Stars for lengths of time. The Stars recently brought one back for a professional tryout contract. It was none other than Jamie Benn’s brother, Jordie Benn. Jordie signed a professional tryout contract before training camp starts. Now he played for the Stars’ organization before from 2011-2017. This is pretty unusal contract that he signed this week. Let’s take a look at what it means for the Stars’ organization and training camp coming up.

Jordie Benn Signs Professional Tryout Contract: What does it mean?

Basically what it means is that Jordie Benn will be at training camp this season. This will allow some competition for the younger prospects as they are trying to make the roster. What i’m concerned about is Benn has a super slim chance at making the roster. The Stars basically have the roster filled out for this season and it will take a miracle for him to make it. This will more than likely be his last shot at playing with Jamie during his hockey career.

Jordie Benn Signs Professional Tryout Contract: Why some fans are scratching their heads at this move

The reason why some fans are confused about this move is the Stars’ didn’t sign some of that defensive talent that left the Texas Stars this offseason. Will Butcher and others should have been prioritized over signing Jordie this close to training camp. This might come back to bite the Texas Stars this season. Hopefully, it doesn’t and the Texas Stars have a very successful season and have a deep playoff run again.

Jordie Benn Signs Professional Tryout Contract: Conclusion

Now I think this is a nice gesture to Jordie Benn by the Dallas Stars. It will allow him to compete and be closer to family this season compared of being up in Toronto. Do I think he does have a shot to make the roster? Yes I do think he has a shot at making the roster, it’s just very slim. I hope Jordie comes into training camp and make those prospects and players already on the roster sweat.
