The day is finally here when the Stars’ prospects will take the ice against the Detroit Red Wings. I know it’s not as exciting as preseason hockey but that’s only a couple of weeks away. Fans will be able to watch the future of the Dallas Stars in a four-day prospect tournament which starts tonight. It will be interesting to see the line combinations and the defensive pairings. Let’s take a look at the three keys of the game for the Stars’ prospects against the Red Wings.

Dallas Stars vs. Detroit Red Wings: 3. I want to see Logan Stankoven paired up with Matthew Seminoff and Mavrik Bourque

Now I know this will probably not happen but I would like to see these three paired together tonight. I would like to see if this line could be a scoring threat line when all three make it onto the team. Seeing who can pair well together with Stankoven is going to be critical considering he is the future of this franchise.

Dallas Stars vs. Detroit Red Wings: 2. Play Bryan Thomson the whole game

Another thing I would like to see happen is Bryan Thomson play the entire game against the Red Wings. He just recently signed a two-year AHL contract this offseason. He posted a .919 save percentage with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. I want to see how he can handle this stacked Red Wings’ Prospect roster. If he wants the backup job in Cedar Park, he’s going to show he can handle a full game starting with the prospect tournament.

Dallas Stars vs. Detroit Red Wings: 1. Experiment

I’m not expecting the Dallas Stars to go 3-0 this weekend so why not go out and experiment with different line combinations? One thing I would like to see if the coaching staff will change up the lines in the middle of the game. These games mean nothing in terms of a trophy or record so just go out and experiment to see who plays well with each other.
