The Dallas Stars are going to give me heart problems by the month of December if they continue to play the way they did tonight. The Star had a commanding 4-2 lead after Jamie Benn scored on a wrister. The Philadelphia Flyers responded shortly after scoring two short-handed goals on the Stars’ power play to tie the game up at four in the third period. Joe Pavelski bailed us on a back-handed goal to bail the Stars out in OT for the win. Here are the three takeaways from tonight’s game against the Flyers.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Recap: 3. Offense was flowing tonight
The Stars’ offense was on fire tonight and it all started off with Wyatt Johnston. Roope Hintz and Tyler Seguin also added goals tonight as well. three of the four lines recorded a goal tonight which is something I was hoping to see happen tonight.
I hope this continues as the season moves along. The Stars have the talent to have four scoring lines and the best forward depth in the league. There is some work to do on the power play which I’ll get to in a bit but it was a good night for the offense.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Recap: 2. Power play was not flowing tonight
The power play needs some serious work after what happened on the ice tonight. I don’t even know where to begin about this, it was just bad tonight. The Stars gave up three short-handed goals with the extra-man advantage tonight. Two of the three goals allowed the Flyers to tie it up and send it to overtime in the third period. That shouldn’t happen at all to be honest and it needs to be cleaned up at practice before the next game.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Recap: 1. Goaltending
I was hoping to see Scott Wedgewood suit up and give Oettinger a break tonight. However, I wasn’t happy with all the easy goals that he gave up. The defense was the main reason for a couple of the goals. Jake Oettinger is not going to be able to play every game this season. The Stars need to find a good goaltender possibly at the deadline because Wedgewood is not a long-term option here. The Stars can be a huge threat in the West if they can find a quality backup goaltender.
