It is a very cool night at the American Airlines Center if you are a fan of the ’90s era of Stars hockey. The Dallas Stars are taking on the Philadelphia Flyers tonight as they honor two players entering the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame. Ed Belfour and Ken Hitchcock were voted on this summer to be in the second Hall of Fame class. It’s crucial for the Stars to set the tone early and get a huge victory on such a huge night. Here are the three keys of the game tonight against the Flyers.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Preview: 3. Set the tone early
The Stars need to set the tone early tonight as they take on the Flyers. The start against the Anaheim Ducks was less than ideal as they looked like they were sleepwalking out there in the first period. They have to be better with their passing and allowing odd-man rushes. The Stars’ defensemen have got to cover their assignments on the ice. The Flyers aren’t going to give the Stars a 15-minute head start in this game as they are playing the role of “party crashers”.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Preview: 2. Stop Travis Konecny and Cam Atkinson
The Flyers have two really good goal scorers so far early on in the season, Travis Konecny and Cam Atkinson. Both of these players have three goals each and can be lethal at any time in the game. The Stars have to make sure that they are covered at all times on the ice. I would like to see Thomas Harley and Miro Heiskanen shut both of these players down tonight. If these two players get shut down tonight, the Stars will have a 3-0-1 record by the end of the night.
Dallas Stars vs. Philadelphia Flyers Preview: 1. Let Belfour and Hitchcock how much they mean to us
This one isn’t technically a key of the game for the Stars, this one is for the fans who will be in attendance at the game tonight. Make sure to give the loudest ovation when they honor Belfour and Hitchcock before the game. These guys were instrumental parts of bringing the Stanley Cup to the city of Dallas back in 1999. Make sure to give them a loud standing ovation tonight at the game.
