I’ll blame the first-period performance of the Dallas Stars on how cold that ice must have been. After thawing out the chainsaw, the Stars got their offense going and ran away with the game. The Stars ended up winning 4-1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins and stole two points on the road tonight.
I still want to see a complete game from the Stars from beginning to end. However, I’ll take the two points tonight against a very skilled Penguins squad. Let’s take a look at the three takeaways from the massive road win tonight.
Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Recap: 3. Another slow start
Before I get to all the positives tonight, we have to address the slow start out of the gate. Once again, the Stars were caught sleepwalking out of the gate against an opponent. If the Stars want to hang with all the talent in the Western Conference, they have to get out to quicker starts. If you want some context, look at how the Texas Rangers came out of the gate in Game 7 of the ALCS last night. That’s the kind of start the Stars are going to need with all the tough opponents coming up.
Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Recap: 2. Multiple goal scorers tonight
Now let’s focus on all the positives from tonight’s game. Let’s start off with how the Stars had FOUR different goal-scorers tonight. I liked how it was a mixture of forwards and defensemen tonight. The best goal of the night has to go to Jason Robertson.
I’m so happy he finally got his first goal of the season. I was starting to get worried when he would score his first goal. Now that’s out of the way, hopefully, he goes off and scores a bunch more against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Recap: 1. Shut down PK
One of the things I wanted to see the Stars do coming into the season was have a shutdown penalty kill unit. The team must have listened to me because they haven’t given up a power play goal this season. I’m sure that streak will probably end at some point with all the good opponents coming up on the schedule. For now, I’m happy with the way they have been a dominating force on the penalty kill to start the season.
