The Dallas Stars kick off the November portion of their schedule tonight as they take on the Calgary Flames on the road. After a 5-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at home on Monday night at the American Airlines Center, the Stars look to keep their winning streak going.
The Flames and the Stars have been a minor rivalry ever since the playoffs a couple of seasons ago. This will be the first of two games this month between both teams. The second game is the day after Thanksgiving on Friday night. Let’s take a look at what the Stars need to do in order to extinguish the Flames tonight.
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Preview: 3. Attack early and often
The Stars need to continue to attack the net early and often again tonight. I know I sound like a “broken record” but it worked in the last game against Columbus. Thomas Harley opened the scoring in the opening minute of the game. The earlier the Calgary crowd is out of the game, the better it is for the Stars.
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Preview: 2. Shut down Andrew Mangiapane
The Stars need to shut down Andrew Mangiapane on the ice tonight. He currently leads the Calgary Flames with three goals this season. Even though he has a low goal count early on in the season, I wouldn’t count him out from getting a couple of chances tonight. Miro Heiskanen and the defense need to make sure to keep an eye on him tonight while defending the net. I don’t want to see him get a breakout game and snap the new winning streak the Stars just started.
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Preview: 1. Get the Seguin line going again tonight
Pete DeBoer mentioned in his postgame conference against the Blue Jackets that he was really happy with how Seguin’s line played. They managed to score a lot of points and was the top line of the night for the Stars. I would like to see Tyler Seguin, Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene get going again tonight against the Flames. I think if they can get set up in the offensive zone and move the puck around, they can be as lethal as Pavelski and Sons.
