It was a rough game defensively but the Dallas Stars managed to come away with the win. The Dallas Stars escaped Calgary by extinguishing the Flames 4-3. There were a lot of things that happened that shouldn’t that I will get to down below. The defense had issues clearing the puck out of our zone and it led to goals. Also, Jani Hakanpää needs to get a tad quicker on the ice. Let’s take a look at the three takeaways from last night’s game against the Calgary Flames.

Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Recap: 3. Defense needs some work

The Stars’ defense still needs some work after last night. The Stars couldn’t get the puck out of their own zone and it led to a Flames goal by Andrew Mangiapane. There were also times that the Stars just couldn’t get back on defense quick enough to keep the Flames from a short-handed scoring attempt. They need to play cleaner because Edmonton is on a whole other level right now, even without Connor McDavid out of the lineup possibly tonight.

Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Recap: 2. Offense was flowing

The Stars’ offense was really great last night. It all started when Jamie Benn got a short-handed goal on the Flames’ powerplay. After getting punched in the mouth to open the second period, three more goals were scored by the Dallas Stars which was enough for the win last night. This is what I want to see from the Stars’ offense this season. I want to see how they respond after getting punched in the mouth by an opponent. The results were fantastic last night for the Stars.

Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Recap: 1. Oettinger can have the night off tonight

When Jake Oettinger is on his game, he’s on his game. I don’t think we would have won last night if he was not in goal, especially during the third period. He stood on his head to prevent this game from going to overtime. I know he’s happy that it didn’t go to overtime as well. It was just an overall great performance from him last night. The Stars don’t get any rest as they travel to Edmonton to take on the Oilers tonight, Expect Scott Wedgewood to start tonight in net for the Stars.
