Sportsnet ranks Stars' Hometown Remix jerseys among NHL's worst

The Dallas Stars' new Hometown Remix jerseys didn't impress Sportsnet, which ranked the white and neon green design 29th among all 32 NHL teams.

The NHL released the official Hometown Remix jersey designs for all 32 teams on Monday, with the Dallas Stars going with a white design for their sweaters. Instead of going with an all-black design like previous alternate jerseys, the organization switched things up by putting black on the sleeves while bringing back the neon green they've used in several other designs.

When the NHL launches a new jersey line, fans and media go through all the designs and provide positive or negative feedback about each sweater, whether they are fans of the team or not. Sportsnet took its shot at ranking all 32 designs, and the author of this particular ranking did not find much to praise about the Stars’ new threads.

Sportsnet ranks Stars' Hometown Remix jerseys 29th overall

In a surprise move, the Stars opted to go with a white base for their Hometown Remix sweater, a design choice that only four other clubs made, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, and Central Division rival, the Colorado Avalanche. Historically, Dallas has relied heavily on black and green, two colors inherited from the franchise's days in Minnesota.

Although the Stars have been in Texas now for over 30 years, they haven’t spent a lot of time revisiting the green and yellow that defined their days as the North Stars. Instead, that legacy has belonged to the Minnesota Wild, who incorporated pieces of the North Stars into their current and alternate schemes.

Sportsnet wasn't impressed with the Stars' continued reliance on neon green, placing their latest design 29th overall. As mentioned, it’s been used numerous times in past releases, and for some fans, it could be considered overkill at this point. At least that’s what someone will take away from Sportsnet’s reason for a 29th-place ranking.

Ultimately, their assessment is not wrong, because the Stars had great jerseys when they relocated in 1993. Moreover, no one is ever going to forget the star-layout jerseys they wore when they won the Stanley Cup in 1999. Also, as crazy as it sounds, the club’s most recent reverse retros in 2000-21 and 2022-23 were amazing designs.

In the end, fans who support the Stars through thick and thin will rush out and buy the Hometown Remix jerseys whether they love them or not. There are plenty of aspects to appreciate, including the inclusion of the iconic green that symbolizes the Dallas skyline, but those outside of Texas who don’t support the team may find it odd.

Either way, the Stars didn’t follow the pattern of so many other teams across the league and make their sweaters as colorful as possible. Instead, the Stars are once again leaning on neon green to make their latest sweater stand out.
