The Dallas Stars had to face their playoff demons as they welcomed the Edmonton Oilers to the American Airlines Center. The Stars gave up the first two goals of the game in the first seven minutes of the game. Even though there was nothing Casey DeSmith could have done on the second goal, the Stars rallied to beat the Oilers 4-3 and started a new winning streak. Even though DeSmith did his best tonight, the Stars failed to show up on offense and it's why they lost.

Even though the Stars had to comeback and win in a shootout, one player acheived a career milestone. Mikko Rantanen scored his 300th career goal against the Oilers tonight. The puck went behind Skinner and Rantanen back-handed it into the net. That goal got the American Airlines Center on their feet after being down 2-0 to the Oilers. Here are the four takeaways from tonight's loss to the Oilers
Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers Recap: 4. Nothing DeSmith could have done on Leon's goal
Casey DeSmith went over the top trying to take away that shooting lane from Leon Draisaitl, and he still scored the goal. All you can do is shake your head and move on. The Stars could have done a better job defending that, but there's nothing you can do with that quick release of his. The Stars will have to live with those types of goals and move on. The Stars continued to battle on after that goal but nothing could be done when Stuart Skinner brings his A game.

Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers Recap: 3. Thomas Harley needs to do better
Sometimes players get complacent after signing huge contract extensions. Thomas Harley got walked on that first goal by Vasily Podkolzin when Jack Roslovic went right around him with the puck. He's got to be a better player after the Stars gave him a chunk of change with his new contract extension. He's been playing very relaxed on the ice since earning that extension. That won't help in the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the stakes are raised.
Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers Recap: 2. Someone has to light a fire in that locker room
The one thing that has happened since Jamie Benn's injury is that no one is really stepping up in terms of leadership in the locker room. While we do have three assistant captains in Benn's absence, no one has truly lit a fire under anyone when the Stars are trailing over the course of the game. I want someone to get the team going until Benn gets back and takes command of the ship. The Stars might be in for a long November if no one steps up to be a voice in the locker room.
Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers Recap: 1. Finnish Mafia comeback
What a heck of a comeback led by the Finnish Mafia in the third period tonight to force overtime. Mikko Rantanen almost had a hat trick and Miro Heiskanen tied the game by banking home a rebound off the back board. If the Stars didn't have a performance from Miro Heiskanen in OT by shutting down McDavid, this would have been a different outcome tonight. The Stars will be back in the American Airlines Center as they host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
