The Dallas Stars might need a tough talk after the loss to Boston

The Dallas Stars and the Boston Bruins wrapped up their season series in Boston tonight. Dallas looked energized after the day off, but it wasn't enough as the Stars lost 6-3. Here are the four takeaways from tonight's game against the Bruins.

The Dallas Stars looked to wrap up their road trip on the East Coast with a win against the Boston Bruins tonight. After coming up short in overtime on Sunday night, you figured the Stars would be eager to get out there on the ice tonight and come away with a win. However, it's tough to come back after falling behind 2-0 in the first period. The Stars battled back but lost 6-3 against the Bruins. Sometimes the offense needs a jumpstart, which Jamie Benn provided in the second period.

While I think the fanbase appreciates the Stars for finding a way to get back into games, they shouldn't be doing this around the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Stars should want to dominate their opponents from the opening puck drop, and they just haven't been doing that in their recent stretch of games. I know they are battling through some injuries right now, but players have to step up and provide that offense. Here are the four takeaways from tonight's loss in Boston.

Dallas Stars vs. Boston Bruins Recap: 4. Might as well serve them coffee while we are at it

That was one of the worst first periods by the Dallas Stars in their recent games. They allowed the Bruins to set the tone and pace of the game by the end of the first period. That second goal was completely avoidable, but Thomas Harley basically boxed in Viktor Arvidsson, so there was nothing that Oettinger could have done to stop him. The Stars might as well have worn aprons and served the Bruins some Dunkin' Donuts while they were at it.

Dallas Stars vs. Boston Bruins Recap: 3. Call up the Idaho Steelheads

Nothing against our friends down in Cedar Park, but the Idaho Steelheads are playing like a complete team right now. They will be part of the Kelly Cup Playoffs, which will begin around April 12th. Based on how they have been playing over the last ten games, they should have been playing in Boston tonight instead of the team that took the ice. The Stars looked so disinterested, like Charizard was being Ash's Pokémon. I need to see some life from the Stars' bench in the next two games, or else it will be a short playoff run.

Dallas Stars vs. Boston Bruins Recap: 2. I'll give them credit for fighting back

I'll give the Stars some credit for fighting back in this game tonight. It's hard to win games in this league with the amount of injuries the Stars have at their forward position at the moment. Jamie Benn and Matt Duchene willed their way into scoring goals in the second period to will this team to victory. While it did take them some time to score, they need to score faster in the next game. Winnipeg isn't going to wait until the Stars strike first before scoring goals.

Dallas Stars vs. Boston Bruins Recap: 1. Stop trailing early in the game

The Dallas Stars have to snap out of falling behind early in hockey games. This is the eighth-straight game where the Stars have found themselves behind 1-0. That cannot happen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The playoffs are a completely different breed, where the team that scores first usually goes on to win. I know the Stars like a challenge, but this is starting to really concern me. The Stars are back at it against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night at the AAC.
