Dallas Stars News: Jamie Benn Is Ultimate Hockey Player

Well, the Dallas Stars fan base is not an army of one anymore in their certain beliefs. The Stars captain Jamie Benn received a compliment from a two-time Stanley Cup Champion goaltender Jonathan Quick.

The Los Angeles Kings goaltender has done a two-part series so far where he has dissected the entire game of hockey in the 60-minute frame. He wrote his two articles for The Players Tribune, a site dedicated to allowing professional players write their own opinionated pieces and give the fans a new angle to look at the game from.

In his first article, Quick preached about the truly difficult nature of being a goalie. He criticized analysts and commentators that use the term “easy save.” He explained different scenarios in games, and showed the readers the goalie’s perspective and the defender’s perspective.

In his second article, Quick decided to write about some of the most feared offensive snipers in the league. He picked a handful of players, going into deep description about why each one is lethal with the puck and what they do that makes them so powerful.

At the end of the article, he made sure to throw one of the best dynamic duos in the NHL at the moment, and he fit both of them into one portion of the article.

While he wrote about how Tyler Seguin knew how to enter stealth mode in the offensive one and find an open space on the weak side, he wrote plenty about Jamie Benn, and even paid him a gracious compliment. Here is his comment below:

In the spirit of tradition, I am going to cheat again with this duo. When Seguin was traded to the Stars a few years ago, every goalie in the Western Conference probably saw the news and said, “Aww, come on!” Jamie Benn is basically the ultimate hockey player. My teammate Drew Doughty is one of the best defensemen in the world, so I’ll take his word above anyone when it comes to players, and he’s always saying how tough it is to play against Benn. He can do everything at a high level, but I think he also buys a lot of space for himself on the ice because he’s tough as nails. Benn will hit you. He will fight you. He’s not afraid of anyone. Sometimes the game plan against star players is to rough them up and see if they can take it. With Benn, forget it.

One thing that Jamie does better than anyone is using the defenseman as a screen in 1-on-1 situations. He uses his long reach and unbelievable hands to shoot the puck through the defenseman’s legs. What makes this difficult for a goalie is that it’s hard to pick up the release. You’re watching the puck on the outside of your defenseman’s legs, but then Benn will pull the puck into his feet and shoot it inside the leg. That millisecond that you lose sight of the puck behind your defenseman’s skate makes all the difference in the world.

So, apparently Benn is quite the hockey player? It seems as though sometimes Stars fans may take him for granted based purely on his ability to score. But they forget about everything he brings to the table. From his big frame to his physicality on the forecheck, he is a rare breed in the NHL. His scoring touch and his valiant leadership are the other qualities that help round him out as a superstar. To read the entire article, click here.

In other news, it seems as though Tyler Seguin has endured quite the busy offseason. After leading Team Canada to a gold medal victory in the World Championships, Seguin got off the ice for a little bit and experienced other things. One of these things was being a part of the ESPN Body Issue, which is a yearly compilation of pictures of all sports greatest athletes sans clothing. If you missed out on this and really want to see it, make sure to click here.

Following that, it was made public that Seguin would be participating as an actor in the upcoming sequel to the original movie “Goon.” He is also on his way to creating his own clothing line, and already has a logo picked out, which he displayed at the RBC Canadian Open. Seguin signed up for the annual ping pong tournament hosted by New York Rangers center Dominic Moore. The tournament is for Moore’s charity. Teammates Jason Spezza and Patrick Eaves also showed up, and Eaves ended up walking away with the championship trophy.

Seguin’s most recent appearance was at the Playboy Mansion for a pajama party. If what he told DMN beat writer Mike Heika is true in regards to him being better after attending celebrity parties, I think there may be a few trophies in his future after this upcoming season.
