Dallas Stars Friday Practice Telling Stars Fans A Few Things

The Dallas Stars skated Friday morning in Frisco after returning from Tampa Bay with another disappointing loss on their shoulders.

The Stars lost 3-2 against the Lightning on Thursday night, officially dropping them to 1-5-0 in preseason play with just one preseason game remaining against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. The Stars have been outscored 23-13.

Perhaps the biggest frustration is that some of the Dallas Stars biggest questions so far have yet to be answered. Neither goalie is truly playing up to their style of play, the offense is shaky at best on most nights, and the defense is egregious.

So is there any good coming out of the Stars preseason slate, or is this team doomed starting October 8th?

On Friday morning at their skate, a few things came up that could spark the attention of Stars fans. Here is how the Stars lined up today:

Jamie Benn – Tyler Seguin – Patrick Sharp

Valeri Nichushkin – Jason Spezza – Ales Hemsky

Antoine Roussel – Cody Eakin/Radek Faksa – Patrick Eaves

Curtis McKenzie – Vernon Fiddler – Travis Moen

Jason Dickinson – Mattias Janmark – Colton Sceviour/Remi Elie

Alex Goligoski – John Klingberg

Johnny Oduya – Jason Demers

Jyrki Jokipakka – Jordie Benn

Patrik Nemeth – Jamie Oleksiak

First off on offense, the Stars were skating and working out five lines, and two of them had four people on them. While it is assumed that the first four lines are the main ones the Stars are looking at, it is interesting to see which prospects squeezed in.

There was debate sparking over the past few days about which of the Stars young offensive prospects would end up pushing the hardest for a roster spot. Many believed it to be Mattias Janmark who had made a strong push since being traded to Dallas from Detroit on March 1st.

But it seems that Janmark has slipped a little after last night’s game. Instead, it looked like Radek Faksa and Curtis McKenzie were the frontrunners. But Elie, Dickinson, and Faksa were assigned to the Texas Stars organization after practice, leaving just Janmark and McKenzie. But tomorrow night’s lineup should resemble how the Dallas Stars will line up on October 8th.

On defense, the battle rages on for the final two spots on defense between four capable defenders. It looks like Jokipakka and Benn are retaining their hold on the third pairing after Nemeth and Oleksiak played last night.

The Stars only worked out two goalies today, being Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi. This more than likely means that Jack Campbell is headed back to Cedar Park for what looks to be a big year ahead of him with lofty expectations. He was in Frisco with the team today, but did not practice.

The final countdown is on, and we are less than a week away. We just have to hope that the Dallas Stars we’ve seen over the past ten days are not the ones that we see on opening night.
