The losing streak continues to roll on as the Dallas Stars fell to the Minnesota Wild 3-1 tonight. That’s now three straight losses and 1-7-0 in their last eight.

It just can’t get more painful to watch at this point. The Dallas Stars closed out a three-game road trip tonight with yet another loss, giving them zero of a possible six points on the trip. It just can’t get much worse, can it?

Game recap

The Wild started the game off by scoring in literally the last second of the first period with a power play goal from Ryan Suter.

In the second period, Erik Haula scored to take the 2-0 advantage for Minnesota.

Finally, Cody Eakin got the puck past Darcy Kuemper to get the Stars on the board and cut the lead in half. But Jared Spurgeon was quick to respond and reinstate the two-goal lead for the Wild, which they would carry to the end of the game.

Thoughts and Observations

Stars didn’t deserve the loss

Of all the games where the Dallas Stars play an ugly style and tempo, this was not one of them. The Stars put together a quality performance against the second best team in the league.

They limited the Wild to just one goal at full strength and a total of 26 shots. Meanwhile, they took 35 shots and controlled possession for the majority of the night. But as it’s been in other losses, just one or two careless errors did them in.

It’s hard to ask the Stars to play a perfect style of game, but that is what’s required at this point in the year. After all, it’s the only way that Dallas will turn things around and at least finish the season on a high note.

All aboard the train for darkness

With today’s loss, the Stars dropped to 1-7-0 in their past eight games. They have picked up two of a possible 16 points. Their only win came at home and they have lost eight straight on the road.

After all of these transgressions, Dallas has completely shattered their playoff hopes. They would need a miracle and a half to get into the postseason at this point. With only 23 games remaining in the regular season, the Stars would need to secure at least 32 of a possible 46 remaining points to even have a slight chance at getting in.

More from Blackout Dallas

At this point, the Stars simply need to find a silver lining to ride for the rest of the season. It may not be pretty, but any positivity at this point will work.

Strader inbound

This Saturday will definitely be the best moment of 2017 and perhaps the entire season for the Dallas Stars. That’s because play-by-play announcer Dave Strader will be back in the booth for the first time this season.

After his first year with Dallas in 2015-16 that saw the Stars win the Central Division title, Strader was diagnosed with cancer in the offseason and began a lengthy recovery process. After his long fight, Strader is back in form and will call each game on the upcoming homestand. If you aren’t excited, you need to learn what it means to be a Stars fan. Welcome back, Dave.

Looking ahead

The Dallas Stars will head back to warm confines of the American Airlines Center to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in a Saturday night showdown between two teams who have fallen extremely far from where they were last season.
