Dallas Stars’ Top 5 Moments of the Season
Hockey is a game of numbers: goals, assists, penalty minutes, ice time, points, standings, wins, losses, and the list goes on and on. Today we’ll take a look back on the eighty-two game 2014-2015 campaign for the Dallas Stars and highlight the top five moments of the season.
Number 5: John Klingberg’s First NHL Goal on November 20th, 2014
John Klingberg was a breakout defenseman for the Dallas Stars this season and it all began with his first NHL goal on November 20th, 2014 versus the Arizona Coyotes, which contributed to Dallas’ 3-1 victory. That goal came right in the middle of his incredible eight points (3G, 5A) in five game streak that solidified his place in Dallas Stars history. From there Klingberg went on to score 40 points (11G, 29A) in his sixty-five game rookie campaign to lead all rookie defensemen in scoring. Klingberg’s success this season makes him number five.
Number 4: Dallas vs Chicago on January 18th, 2015
Back-to-back situations have been a struggle for the Dallas Stars over the last few seasons; however, it is one of the areas of their game that was most improved this year. Arguably the best victory on the second night of a back-to-back was Dallas’ 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Dallas dominated the game and found a way to finally beat the Hawks in Chicago after dropping the first two meetings there this season, coincidentally all three games in Chicago saw a Dallas Stars team that had played the night before pitted against a relatively rested Blackhawks group. Dallas’ ability to finally crank out two points versus the Hawks on the road make that game number four on our list.

Number 3: Enroth’s First Win for Dallas on April 4th, 2015 vs Nashville
Back-up goalies in Dallas have struggled over the last year or so to say the least. More than halfway through the season a back-up goalie had not won a game in which he started, a streak that had begun in March of 2013. That all changed when Jhonas Enroth, acquired in a trade from Buffalo in mid-February, held on to beat the Nashville Predators 4-3 in overtime breaking the streak and earning his first win as a starter for the Dallas Stars. That win started a four-game winning streak for Enroth and the Stars, making it number three out of five.
Number 2: Dallas vs Pittsburgh October 16th, 2014
In one of the stranger outings this season the Dallas Stars came from behind to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. The Stars trailed the Penguins 2-1 heading into the final twenty minutes and looked to have scored to tie it with less than five minutes to go; however, the goal was controversially waived off for goalie interference. This infuriated the Stars bench; however, the team refocused and none other than Jamie Benn came out to tie it up 2-2 at 17:03 of the third. They weren’t done yet, though. Tyler Seguin scored a beauty on the power play with three seconds left to secure Dallas the 3-2 regulation victory in Pittsburgh. The dramatic finish to this game against a skilled Penguins team makes it number two on the list.
Number 1: Home Finale April 11th, 2015
And the number one moment of the season goes to Fan Appreciation Night on April 11th, 2015 when the Dallas Stars ended the season in style, on an extremely high note. Jamie Benn secured the Art Ross Trophy with a four point effort: his second career hat trick and an assist on Cody Eakin‘s goal with only eight seconds remaining. The Stars dominated the Nashville Predators 4-1 to end their campaign on a season high 4-game winning streak. It was the perfect ending to a rather difficult season at home for Dallas, which made their near-.500 home record a little easier to swallow, while also making the future of this team look brighter.
