Dallas Stars Top Game Poll Pt. 7: Chicago Or Minnesota?
Today, Blackout Dallas will be continuing a series for the second year. It was meant to start up at the beginning of July but with the NHL offseason mess, it had to wait. But since there is a bit of down time, now is the time to start it up!
We have made a bracket, one like you would see for the NBA or NHL playoffs, of the 16 best games of the Dallas Stars 2013-2014 regular season. We’re sure you will agree entirely with the 16 games that have been chosen, and if not, then just play along and comment at the end with which one you feel should have been given a chance.
So, we will put a poll up for each of the next 15 days featuring two of the games going head-to-head, with a brief argument for why it should be considered. Then, you can go to the bottom and vote on which one you think deserves to move on to the next round. The poll will expire 24 hours after it is put up, just in time for the next bracket of games to be put up. At the end of the Sweet 16, we will announce the winners of the entire round and start up the Elite 8, and so on and so forth. This is our second year to do this. Last season we received a good reaction from the readers, so we are going to do it for the second straight year.
This is the seventh day of the bracket, and multiple games have already moved on.
Today we will take a look at the next two games: Chicago Blackhawks @ Dallas Stars on March 21st VS. Minnesota Wild @ Dallas Stars on January 3rd
Chicago Blackhawks @ Dallas Stars, 4-0 F:
The Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars seem to have a strong and healthy rivalry breeding. As two of the hottest teams in a red-hot Central Division, they always seem to put on a show when they collide, more so this past year than any other. After an offseason of switching players back and forth, next season promises to be a good one when these two clubs face off.
Last season’s final matchup was quite the exciting one for the Dallas Stars though. On March 21st, the Stars were staring down a crucial matchup with the Hawks in regards to their playoff hopes. They treated it as such also.
With a sea of red jerseys tainting the American Airlines Center, it looked as though it was going to be one go those games where the Hawks fans are rubbing their assured win in the Stars fans faces by the second period. That was until the Stars struck a nerve.
In a surprising turn of events, the Stars led the Blackhawks 2-0 at the end of the first period. Not only that, but the lead only got bigger as the third period began. The Stars scored a total of four goals and Kari Lehtonen pulled off a 33 save shutout against the soon-to-be Stanley Cup Champions. The Stars continued on their path to the postseason with this win and lasted about another two weeks. But the win was monumental while it lasted. Also, it was quite a redeeming sight to see all of the red cleared from the stands about halfway through the third period.
Minnesota Wild @ Dallas Stars, 7-1 F:
The Stars went through December on quite the tear. After a disappointing start to the season, primarily in November, the Stars were in need of a serious rebirth. December is considered by many to be the turning point in the season.
The end of December brought a three-game home stand with it. Two of the three capped off December, both of them being big wins for the Stars. The third was against the Minnesota Wild on January 3rd. The Stars had not fared well against the Wild in their previous meetings, and it looked like the sweep of the home stand could end up being difficult.
In the first period, the Stars were definitely the more determined team. With 14:26 to go, Vernon Fiddler found the back of the net for a power play goal. The Stars outshot the Wild 12-5, yet they only led 1-0. That was until the second period when the Stars started a clinic. This is when five different Stars starters tallied goals, leading to a 6-1 lead through 40 minutes. After a sixth Star scored a goal in the final period, the Stars walked away with a 7-1 win. Along with three fights from Colton Sceviour, Vernon Fiddler, and Jason Demers (along with the adorable photo of the three of them in the penalty box), it was a great way to kick in the new year.
Now that you have been refreshed on the games, it’s time for you to let your voice be heard. Vote below on which game you think was the more entertaining. The poll will deactivate in 24 hours and the winning game will move on to the next round. Apologies to anyone using the mobile app as it does not currently support our polls. But we encourage you to find us online or through social media and vote there!
Be on the lookout tomorrow for the next edition of this series. The Stars had some memorable games this past season, but which one was the most memorable? You can help make this decision by casting your vote down below.
