Dallas Stars Could Walk Away With Multiple NHL Awards
If the Dallas Stars truly experienced a weak moment when they fell 4-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night, it did not last for long.
The Stars arrived in Boston, MA around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, staring down the second leg of a back-to-back. Dismayed and confused about a 4-1 loss to the Leafs that had occurred just hours before their arrival, they put it behind them and prepared for their matchup against the Bruins.
It is safe to say they did not dwell on their loss for long. The Dallas Stars entered the TD Garden on Tuesday night and overwhelmed the Bruins, dismantling them by a final score of 5-3. The charge was led by former Bruin himself, Tyler Seguin. Amidst the boos raining down upon him from the crowd, Seguin played a calm and composed game and ended up turning in a hat trick. Oh and he made a teenage girl’s birthday one to remember, so that’s pretty cool too.
With Seguin’s sixth hat trick as a member of the Dallas Stars, he is once again proving that he is one of the main drivers of their offensive core.
But he is not the only one. The Stars captain Jamie Benn turned in a two-point effort Tuesday night, making that his 11th of 13 games with at least a point this season as well as his seventh multi-point night.
Going into Wednesday, seven of the top eight scoring duos in the league were duos from the Stars. As you can probably guess, each one of those top seven duos included either Jamie Benn or Tyler Seguin, including the top pair which involves both of them.
The Dallas Stars currently own the top two spots in points throughout the NHL. These two spots are held by Jamie Benn with 20 points (10-10-20) and Tyler Seguin with 20 points (8-12-20).
Though the season is only a sixth of the way finished, it is inspiring to see the Stars two top young forwards setting the pace for the NHL so far.
This also means that the Dallas Stars could be seeing some awards making their way to Dallas by the end of this season.
Last year, the Stars organization had their name stuck to one of the NHL’s 22 awards. This award was the Art Ross Trophy and Jamie Benn captured it after achieving a four-point night in game 82 that officially made him the league’s leading scorer for 2014-2015. He was the first Dallas Star to ever win the award and created an image for the Stars offense.
The Stanley Cup, Clarence S. Campbell Trophy, and Presidents’ Trophy are awards that the Dallas Stars as a whole must win and have the potential to win, there are plenty of awards for individuals that the dynamic duo of Benn and Seguin could end up winning.

Right off the bat, the Art Ross Trophy (most points), Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy (most goals), Hart Memorial Trophy (MVP), and Ted Lindsay Award (MVP as voted by NHLPA) are all awards that could likely find their way into Seguin or Benn’s hands. If they can keep up with the pace they are setting right now, they should have no problem ending up as the top two scorers across the entire league.
But there are others that could easily be obtained as well. If the Stars make it to the Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy could be given to one or the other based on their leadership in the postseason.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is awarded to the hockey player that best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice along with making a humanitarian contribution to his community. Seguin is molding into a more effective leader every day and is once again doing his yearly “Seguin’s Stars” event at all Stars home games. He buys a box suite for handicaps in the community to enjoy a hockey game for free as well as meet Seguin and other players after the game.
Mark Messier annually gives out The Mark Messier Leadership Award, which is given to the best leader on and off the ice during the season. With Jamie Benn becoming one of the league’s most effective captains with his play and actions during the season, he could easily be a candidate for the award.

How could we forget the NHL General Manager of the Year? Jim Nill has used each offseason to his advantage and built a superstar team as a result that is on the brink of success. If the Dallas Stars continue to be led by the likes of Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, it is only a matter of time until this team is etching their name into the most glorious piece of hardware in all the NHL.
