Dallas Stars Message To NHL: “We’re Not Going Anywhere”
Those Dallas Stars always find a way to surprise. Their most recent win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night proved that one thing is for sure: the Stars aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Just 31 seconds into the third period of Saturday night’s game, Jamie Benn tallied his second goal of the night. This goal gave the Stars a 5-1 advantage over the Montreal Canadiens and all but sealed the fate of the game.
The Stars would finish the game with a 6-2 win over the third place team in the NHL standings. The win moved the Stars into sole control of first place in the league.
Jamie Benn had three points (2-1-3). Jason Spezza had three points (1-2-3). Tyler Seguin had two points (1-1-2). Five different Dallas Stars scored on offense. The Stars chased Canadiens starter Mike Condon out of net after the sixth goal was tallied. The Stars drew eight penalties against the Canadiens. They just played an all around better game than the Canadiens, and as a result they cruised to two points.
The Dallas Stars had a good night, that much is clear. They became the first team in the NHL to hit the 50-point mark this season. They now have a two point lead on the second place Washington Capitals and will hopefully continue to build on it.
If Saturday night said anything, it was this: the Dallas Stars have no intentions of going anywhere anytime soon. By anywhere, we obviously mean in the standings.
There was some speculation and worry for the Stars sake after an aggravating 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Thursday. This speculation was in response to the Stars losing their fourth of eight games in the month of December. Meanwhile, the Capitals were in full force and closing in on the Stars quickly.
The Stars had owned the NHL’s first place spot for a few weeks and everything seemed right with the world. But the losses began to pile up, and the Stars were not used to that.
Saturday night marked a massive turnaround in the month and hopefully for the rest of the stretch. While it is definitely an impressive victory over an Eastern Conference powerhouse, the Stars have a lot of obstacles left to hurdle before the beginning of 2016. The majority of these obstacles are playoff teams looking to knock the Stars from their pedestal.

If the Dallas Stars learned anything from their most recent game, it should be that they can defeat anyone. Not just defeat, but thoroughly obliterate. Last night’s game saw the Stars lead start at 2-0 and never slip below a two-goal lead for the rest of the game. Not only that, but every time the Canadiens would try and cut the deficit down, the Stars would almost immediately slip another goal on the board to regain their prior lead.
The game as a whole was a huge statement for Dallas and a pretty big disappointment for Montreal. While the Stars continue to rise, it looks like Montreal may be in for some tough and rocky times.
The Stars have two more games, both divisional, before their Christmas break begins. If they can manage to squeeze three or four points out of the two games, they could glide into the break with an impressive hold on the lead.

Whatever happens, they will always have Saturday night. What a game it was, and what a statement. The Dallas Stars are back on top of the NHL by themselves. According to their bounce-back performance Saturday, they would like to keep it that way.
