The Dallas Stars improved to (41-20-9) after a back-to-back series against the Central Division Rival Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. While they didn’t get the result in last night’s match-up, they can still be happy about their position heading into their last dozen games of the regular season.

Friday March 10th vs. Chicago

The Stars hosted the Hawks on Friday night at the American Airlines Center in a game that featured an explosion of Dallas Stars offense. They scored four goals on Chicago’s Corey Crawford that caused him to vacate the net and ended the night with five goals to Chicago’s two.

Jason Spezza, Tyler Seguin, Ales Hemsky, Antoine Roussel and Jamie Benn all scored a goal a piece in the match-up that saw the Stars’ power play convert on two of six opportunities.

Their penalty kill was also a highlight of the night, stopping all five of the Hawks’ chances with the man advantage.

All in all the game was a success from nearly every angle. The Stars found a way to come together and play a complete game down the line-up and, more importantly, they defended their multiple goal lead rather well to end the night with a big two-points and first place in the division.

Last Night vs St. Louis

Dallas hosted the other team in the battle for the division lead last night in a 5-4 overtime loss. The St. Louis Blues traveled to face the Stars, making it a game they should have won, but Dallas still earned a point in the battle.

That was enough to maintain their position as the Central Division leaders, but only by the first tie-breaker of regulation/overtime victories.

While the game didn’t end the way the Stars would’ve liked, they put out a good effort coming back from being down by one goal twice in the first two periods. Before the second ended, though, the Blues took their first two-goal lead of the game that put the Stars in a challenging spot.

  • Dallas being Dallas was able to find a way to score two big goals, by none other than Spezza and Benn, to tie it up in regulation before losing midway through the overtime period.

Last night’s match-up proved the dedication and belief the Stars have in their locker room. Spezza netted two-goals, increasing his goal-scoring streak to six games, and Benn scored his second goal in two games to tie it up near the end of the third period.

The Stars are the benefactors of quality goal scorers and by the looks of it Benn and Seguin have returned to playing their game after a drought over the last few weeks.

    Final Dozen

The last games of the regular season will be a challenge. The Stars will soon be guaranteed a place in this year’s playoffs, while some of their opponents will be in the tough spot of fighting for their postseason lives.

Dallas has unfortunately been rather familiar with that position over the course of the last few seasons, but now they sit on the other side. Nonetheless, the Dallas Stars will have to continue on the road they’re on and keep earning valuable points in order to best position themselves for the playoffs come mid-April.

The good news is although it won’t be an easy last few weeks of the regular season, games like the last two nights will only help their cause.
