Jamie Benn’s Shot at Winning Big at NHL Awards
Jamie Benn is in the running for multiple NHL awards in this year’s ceremony. Take a look at the hard work he put in this season to receive these nominations.
There are only a few short weeks until the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 22nd. The Dallas Stars’ success this past season will be well-represented as members of the organization are in the running for some of the biggest awards.
After a great season Jamie Benn is a nominee for the Hart Trophy, which names the league’s MVP.
Although he has some tough competition, there’s no reason why Benn shouldn’t be accepting the trophy in a few weeks.
Contributions in All Three Zones
Jamie Benn had a great season with the Stars, leading them to a Central Division Title and the top spot in the highly competitive Western Conference. Thanks to his efforts, he is one of three nominees for the Hart Trophy alongside Chicago’s Patrick Kane and Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby.
He totaled 89 points (41G, 48A) playing in all 82 of Dallas’ regular season games. He added 15 points (5G, 10A) in their 13 playoff games as well, making him average more than a point per game throughout the entire season.

Benn finished second in the league in points, behind fellow nominee Kane, and third in goals scored.
Jamie Benn plays in all situations. He’s on the ice for the power play and the penalty kill, is on the first line for 5-on-5 and he still finds the energy to play a very physically dominating style.
Compared to his fellow nominees, Benn has a fewer years of experience, but more diversity in his game.
Leadership
More than the points, though, is Benn’s leadership. He has proven time and time again that when the Stars need a leader most he’s the guy.
When they lose, Benn takes the blame. Although that isn’t representative of the healthiest mindset for an athlete, Benn continues to get better because of the pressure he puts on himself.

He went from a 5th round draft pick to being nominated for the league’s best. That surely points out the dedication found in No. 14 and it definitely contributed to his nomination.
Jamie Benn is the Dallas Stars’ biggest contributor on and off the ice and he has made a name for himself with his play the season. If that isn’t deserving of the award for the league’s MVP, who knows what is.
Bottom Line
Benn does it all and is a player the Dallas Stars wouldn’t be the same without. He’s their captain and serves as a go to player in every situation whether it be offensive or defensive.

Winning would be a way to highlight all of the hard work he’s put in over the course of last season. If he somehow doesn’t win, though, the Stars and Benn himself can still be proud of the season he had while looking forward to puck drop this fall.
