The Dallas Stars will be minus their points leader for the next four months after having surgery on a torn labrum this past Tuesday. It’s a good thing they aren’t playing any hockey between now and then.
Tyler Seguin and Devin Shore were part of a rare breed this season for the Dallas Stars. That’s because they were the only two players who skated in all 82 games for the team.
For Seguin, it was just the second time in his NHL career to play an entire 82-game slate and the first since joining the Dallas Stars in 2013.
And though he helped carry along a sluggish Stars offense throughout the season with 72 points, the season once again came at a cost for Seguin: a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Apparently the injury flared up midway through the season but Seguin decided to play through it. At his exit physical, they discovered the tear and determined that surgery was necessary.

The surgery was a success and Seguin is now expected to need four months to recover. It will involve wearing a sling and rehab.
This is not the first time that Seguin has been injured with the Dallas Stars. After a primarily healthy and successful first season in Dallas, the center has experienced injuries such as a slight MCL tear, a partially torn achilles as a result of a skate blade cutting it that sat him out for the final 10 games of the 2015-16 season and all but one of the 13 postseason games, and a heel injury just before this season began. Now he has a shoulder injury to add to the list.
Seguin has yet to see a completely healthy season of hockey in Dallas, but he decided to push through his hindrances this season and it ended up paying off big time for the Stars.
The surgery is expected to keep Seguin sidelined four months, meaning that he should be back in action by late August, giving him just enough time to get ready for training camp in mid-September.
It’s a good thing the Dallas Stars aren’t playing any playoff hockey right now or else it might be safe to say that Tyler Seguin is truly cursed by the hockey gods.

Other than Seguin, there are no offseason surgeries currently planned for any Stars’ players. While there are minor injuries here and there, none will require surgery at the current moment.
