Even though the 2016-2017 season is still going strong for four teams, the Dallas Stars have been done for awhile. It’s time to move on from being disappointed and move into looking forward to the 2017-2018 season.

Obviously the Dallas Stars team is changing drastically with a new coach, new goalie, and a player on their way out for the expansion draft. Thankfully, the 2016-2017 team that fans knew and were disappointed by will be no more. Since that mess is being handled, it’s a good time to start looking at what other experiences that will be out there for the fans besides the games.

The 25th Anniversary

The 2017-2018 season will mark the 25th year the Stars have been in Texas. The Stars players will wear a 25th anniversary patch on their jerseys this season. According to the Dallas Stars NHL page, various guest appearance will be made on some weekend games. Since they work for the Stars, I’m assuming Marty Turco and Rich Peverley will definitely be two of the guests during the year. If Mike Modano is coming to one, I’m going to be there. In fact, if the whole 1999 Stanley Cup team wanted to show up one weekend that would be great.

More from Blackout Dallas

The Stars website and social media sites are also doing the 25 Defining Moments in Dallas Stars History every week during off-season. So far, they’ve done only 3 so there’s still 22 more to go and then the fans will get an opportunity to vote on what they think was the “quintessential moment in franchise history”. So keep your eyes open for some great Stars history!

Retiring Number 26

Another thing to look forward to this coming season will be the retiring of Jere Lehtinen’s jersey number 26. He played his 14 seasons for his only NHL team, the Dallas Stars, from 1995-2010. He also won the Frank J. Selke Trophy winner, given for being a top defensive forward, three times and was the third person to win it in back to back years. And obviously he add a Stanley Cup win to his resume in 1999. If only we could get a player like him for this coming season! Lehtinen will be the 5th retired number for both the Minnesota North Stars and the Dallas Stars.
