Dallas Stars News: Bishop Assigned Number And Burnside Joining On
The newsroom is up and running for the Dallas Stars today and there is plenty to get caught up on. In case you missed any of it, here you go.
It’s officially June 1st and things are already up and running for the Dallas Stars organization.
Game two of the Stanley Cup Final last night helped put a lot of things in perspective, one being that the offseason may not be as far off as we had initially hoped or planned. The Penguins mauled the Predators 4-1 after a furious start to the third period to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.
By the end of the game, Nashville looked lost and in need of answers for the first time in this playoffs. At the rate they are going, the series will end with Pittsburgh raising the Cup for a second straight year after game four.
With the series shifting to Bridgestone Arena for two games, there may still be a sliver of hope. But with the Penguins holding a commanding 2-0 lead after two decisive victories, it looks all but over at this point.
Aside from watching Vernon Fiddler and Trevor Daley go at it in the Final, there is actually other Dallas Stars news to attend to. So let’s dive right in.
Dallas Stars
Ben Bishop assigned new number
As the first and newest acquisition for the Dallas Stars in the 2017 offseason, Bishop is the talk of the town. The newest Stars goaltender signed a six-year deal with the club in mid-May, locking him in Dallas through the 2022-23 season.
It was a great deal on both sides. Dallas got an elite starting goaltender and solved a problem that has lingered for years in their crease and Bishop received a sense of security for the rest of his career.
But the next question after signing his contract was in regards to what number he would wear. Surely there are a good number of fans who will want to get his name and number pasted on the back of the new Adidas/Fanatics jersey they buy this coming offseason when they are released. Well now you know.
Ben Bishop will stick to his old number from his days in Tampa Bay and wear number 30 for the Dallas Stars next season. Here’s to hoping that he does better than some of the other players who have worn the number prior to him (Dan Ellis, Tim Thomas, and Andrew Raycroft to name a few).
So go ahead and start saving up for the next jersey to add to your collection, all you jerseyholics.

After 13 years working for The Worldwide Leader in Sports, Burnside was among the many cuts that the network made back in late April.
In looking for new work, the Dallas Stars extended him an offer in hopes of taking the coverage of the franchise in a new direction and hopefully helping build and grow it in a packed Dallas market. Burnside seems to be the perfect fit for the job. And like the Stars in the offseason, Burnside is already off and running. He’s already conducted his first interview with new head coach Ken Hitchcock. For that interview, click here.
