Consistency is key in order to obtain success in the NHL. The Dallas Stars are quickly finding consistency, and that helps speak volumes about the team’s future.
“If we can keep our consistency a little bit more here, we’re going to be a really dangerous team.” That’s what defenseman John Klingberg had to say about the Dallas Stars following Friday night’s game.
He couldn’t have hit the nail more on the head.
In professional sports, consistency is key. But it’s especially important in the NHL. When a team is playing three to four times a week, they have to find some sort of consistency and latch onto it. Otherwise, they will struggle to ever start a run.
On Friday night, the Dallas Stars played like a team that had found consistency. They closed out a three-game homestand by beating the New York Islanders 5-0.
Dallas Stars
The Stars scored three even strength goals, one power play goal, and one shorthanded goal in the contest. They did all of this on 29 shots, giving them a shooting percentage of 17.25 (which is rather impressive). Meanwhile, their defense gave up a season-low 14 shots against. This helped Ben Bishop swing his first shutout as a Stars goaltender. They dominated for 60 full minutes, gave up next to nothing in chances, and controlled the pace and flow of the game with their attack.
All in all, it was a well-rounded and dominant effort. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen it from this Stars team, but it was the first time Dallas had finished a game on such a dominant note.
Their last strong effort came last Saturday night against the Buffalo Sabres. They won the contest 5-1 and were firing on all cylinders as well.
But even with all of these dominant performances, the Dallas Stars sit at a record of 9-7-0. Why are they just two games above average when they are showing just how great of a team they can be in certain games? It’s because consistency is key, and the Stars have yet to find full consistency this season.
Dallas has been stuck in a back-and-forth motion all season long. The team will blow their opponents out of the water on one night and drop the ball on another.
Every team needs consistency to succeed or else they will never make it past the first or second step in their season. The Stars are learning that with each passing game.
And though it may be at a slow rate, the Dallas Stars are beginning to find their consistency. It’s not a quick or easy process when dealing with such a new team. The offseason brought a lot of changes to the Stars’ roster, and those changes have to be dealt with. Adapting as a unit is the first step in gaining the necessary consistency.
The Stars are now 6-2-0 at home and have won two of their last three games. As November continues to roll on, Dallas will hopefully continue finding consistency and powering through each game with a dominant and well-rounded effort.
