With the recent rumblings of the addition of Jim Montgomery as the new head coach of the Dallas Stars comes more additions and shuffling. Let’s take a look at some of the action going on around the organization.
We all knew that it was never going to be a quiet offseason for the Dallas Stars. With the 2018 Entry Draft around the corner and a new day for the Dallas franchise dawning, the Stars are making the most of a time of transition.
The void left by Ken Hitchcock’s retirement has reportedly been filled by Jim Montgomery, who has been head coach for the University of Denver for the last five years. With a coach new to the NHL, the Stars can perhaps start afresh with a clean slate.
However, even though it didn’t pan out to perfection in the case of Ken Hitchcock, sometimes a throwback can be just what the doctor ordered for a speedy recovery.
The Dallas Stars have taken this into account many times in employing former players within the organization and keeping them around.

They’ve done so yet again in naming Marty Turco president of the Dallas Stars Foundation and also placing him in the role of chairman of the Foundation board. Turco has long since established himself both as a foundational Stars player, but also as a cornerstone of the community in terms of charity and humanitarian work.
His new roles within the Dallas Stars Foundation seem like a no-brainer, establishing a beloved pillar in the Stars community even further.
And while the Stars are working to balance the benefits of a clean slate and the honoring of tradition, they’re not forgetting how sturdily the team rests upon the constant influx of young new talent.
In the midst of all the other news of old and new faces filling voids for Dallas this offseason, the Stars announced yesterday that they’ve also signed 18 year old right-winger Jason Robertson to a three year, entry level contract. The forward, who was drafted by the Stars in round two last year, has been proving himself in the OHL and will hopefully find his place on a Stars team on it’s way up.
