Step right up, Dallas Stars fans, step right up!

It’s  June 1, 2018, and that means that the high point of the NHL offseason is around the corner. The Stanley Cup Final is two games deep and has provided us with plenty of entertainment so far. But by June 14, the 2017-18 NHL season will be in the rearview mirror. So enjoy the hockey action while you still can.

This year’s Stanley Cup Final is offering a show like no other and has provided hockey fans with plenty of entertainment. It has also given the Dallas Stars a lot to think about after falling short in their own 2017-18 campaign.

This past season came as a bit of an unprecedented shock for the Stars. After building up potential and hype in the 2017 offseason following a horrific 2016-17 season, Dallas finally looked ready to push back through to the postseason. And from October to February, they looked like a powerful hockey team.

But once March began, the team sunk back into its hole of mediocrity. The Stars posted a 4-8-4 mark through the 16 games of the month and watched as the rest of the conference raced past them. Dallas quickly fell from third place in the Central with a comfortable spot in the playoff race to outside the playoff picture by a handful of points.

The Stars finished the season with a 42-32-8 record and 92 points, missing the postseason by three points. While their record shows the signs of an above average performance, their play down the final stretch made the season look like a lost opportunity. And, in a way, it was.

That’s why the upcoming offseason will once again serve as a pivotal juncture for the Dallas hockey club. There’s already talent on the roster and the fan base is anxiously waiting for another shot at a playoff berth and even the Stanley Cup. And with that, the need for change is imminent.

The Stars have already hired a new head coach. On top of that, they have plenty of decisions to make regarding free agents, trade targets, and current players on the roster. Each decision could create a different reality for the team going forward, and that’s what makes each one so critical.

But one thing is certain: things still have a good shot at looking up for the Dallas Stars come next year. There’s the potential for a quick turnaround, so long as the Stars find the right pieces and fit them into place this summer. So, don’t give up your Stars fandom just yet.

And speaking of your Stars fandom, how deep and true is it?

  • One year ago, Blackout Dallas put up a first-ever Dallas Stars Ultimate Fandom Test as a means of inspiring Stars fans to test their knowledge. It was composed of 50 questions ranging from novice Stars trivia to diehard questions that only the most dedicated fans would know.

If you never got the chance to take that first test or want to retake it and see if your skills are any sharper, feel free to click here.

The test did really well and from the response, it seemed as though many Stars fans did well. So, why not have some more fun to ring in one of the most exciting months in the NHL? Let’s get into the second edition of the ultimate fandom test to see just how true your Dallas Stars spirit is.

So grab yourself a pencil and some paper.

The test is broken into five slides, with each slide containing ten questions. With each new level comes a more intense difficulty. For instance, level one will be questions that most everyday NHL fans can answer about the team, but level five will contain questions that only diehard Stars fans will likely know.

Every question is worth two points which adds up to a perfect score of 100, so you can calculate your own score once you finish. Following each slide with questions comes a slide with the corresponding answers so you can keep up with your score through each segment.

Here at Blackout Dallas, we run on the honor system and we expect you to do the same. So that means no cheating and looking up the answers on Google or jumping ahead a slide to find them and giving yourself two points for “being savvy.” If you don’t know it, take a guess or just take the L and keep moving.

When you are done taking the test, challenge your friends, family, work buddies, fellow Stars fans, or even your pets. Share it, retweet it, text it, email it. Get all of your friends to take it and compare scores to see which one of you is the most knowledgeable Dallas Stars fan of them all.

Enjoy. And as always, may the odds be ever in your favor.
