At any Dallas Stars game, or sporting event in general, there is always a sea of jerseys ranging from the top players to obscure guys some fans probably forgot even played for the team.

One popular Dallas Stars jersey that’s often seen at the American Airlines Center is Antoine Roussel’s, often popping up between the more common Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin jerseys.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with wearing the jersey of a player who’s no longer on the team, whether they’re retired from playing or not. However, some fans would prefer to stick to current players. For anyone in that category who wears a Roussel jersey (myself included), they’re looking for a new jersey now that he’s headed to Vancouver. Same goes for other departing players like Kari Lehtonen or Dan Hamhuis.

Jerseys are not a cheap investment, with the new Adidas jerseys running about $225 for one with a player’s name and number on it. For fans who want to represent a current player, they may want to consider who’s going to be around the longest in addition to who they like as a player.

Benn is a popular and logical stand-by option in that case. If Seguin signs an extension soon, the same goes for him. John Klingberg is another easy pick, as the Stars won’t be parting ways with him and his outstanding contract any time soon.

For fans looking to the future, both Radek Faksa and Mattias Janmark are safe options. It’s always hard to say what the future holds, but they’re likely to be here for a while to come.

Alexander Radulov is another solid choice, especially after showing how well he can mesh with the team last season. Just take into consideration that he’s under contract with the Stars until he’s 35 and left for the KHL before in his career. That’s two different ways things could end up haywire, with him leaving or losing a step as he gets older.

For fans looking for a riskier pick, Nill seems unwilling to part with Heiskanen, and with good reason. He’s probably going to turn into a fantastic player for the Stars, so he could be a good option if you want to jump on the bandwagon early. Just take into consideration that he hasn’t even played a single NHL game yet, so you might want to wait a little.

There’s also always the option of seeking out an old jersey somewhere like eBay as well, for anyone looking for a change of pace. They’re also often more affordable, but beware of counterfeits If the player’s already retired and is a team legend, you can’t go wrong with that. Plus, the Mooterus jersey is legendary in its own right.
