The Dallas Stars will once again front a new broadcast duo in the booth for the 2018-19 season. A new face is involved and a familiar role for their longtime commentator.

Ralph Strangis, Dave Strader, Daryl “Razor” Reaugh. These three names have been the lifeblood of the Dallas Stars broadcast team over the past 25 years. But times change, and with change comes fresh, new faces and new beginnings.

And that’s what the Stars will have in the 2018-19 season as they prepare for yet another big season.

On Monday morning, the team announced that Razor, a 22-year veteran in the Stars’ broadcast booth, will step away from serving as the play-by-play announcer and reassume his role as color commentator. Up until the beginning of the 2016-17 season, he served as the color commentator, sitting alongside Ralph Strangis for much of it as well as a brief one-year stint with Dave Strader.

He is known as one of the most creative and detailed color analysts in the game and always brings a new edge to Dallas Stars broadcasts. But prior to the 2016-17 season, Strader was diagnosed with cancer and forced to step away from the booth. In light of his absence, Razor stepped in and assumed a new role as play-by-play announcer while Craig Ludwig joined him as the new color analyst.

“For the past two seasons, Daryl has done an absolutely stellar job filling in as the team’s play-by-play announcer in Dave Strader’s absence,” Dallas Stars CEO Jim Lites said in the press release. “Known throughout the entire National Hockey League as one of the best color analysts in the game, we can’t thank him enough for selflessly stepping out of his comfort zone and moving into the play-by-play seat during a very difficult time. Always the consummate professional, it comes as no surprise that Daryl again put the team first by moving back into his previous role where he will continue to shine.”

And while Razor did well in the role, his insightful commentary was missed by the longtime Dallas Stars faithful. In his return, Stars fans will once again receive their nightly dose of “pure, unadulterated larceny” and “poop through a diarrhea-infected goose.” It’s good to have him back in his element.

The play-by-play role is where things get interesting. That’s where Josh Bogorad, the longtime host of Stars Live, will fill in.

Bogorad has spent his post-college life working his way up the hockey broadcasting ladder. From serving as an award-winning play-by-play announcer in the ECHL (in Alaska) and CHL (in Corpus Christi), to serving as the pregame, intermission, and postgame radio host for Stars broadcasts on Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket, he’s had quite a journey. He also called three of the Texas Stars’ Calder Cup Final games on Fox Sports Southwest this past June.

Bogorad spent the past four years behind the desk at Fox Sports Southwest as the host of Stars Live, providing intriguing and thoughtful dialogue alongside a handful of different analysts. His resume and skills speak for themselves and he has a deep knowledge of the Dallas Stars organization. It’s a well-deserved opportunity for a guy who is always working to do more.

The Razor/Ludwig era saw a brief, two-year stint. But the Bogorad/Razor era is now on the horizon. Could this be the next dynamic duo for the Dallas Stars broadcast team?
