Today, the Dallas Stars announced the roster for this weekend’s annual prospect tournament in Traverse City.
The Dallas Stars will take the ice for the first time on Friday evening against the Rangers, giving some of the younger players in the organization a warm-up before training camp the following weekend.
This year’s roster is highlighted by Miro Heiskanen, Nick Caamano, Roope Hintz, and Ty Dellandrea, the Stars’ newest first-round pick. Absent from the list are any college players who are ineligible to play, including Jake Oettinger and Riley Tufte.
Heiskanen, last year’s third overall pick, is the only one expected to make the NHL roster this year out of the four, but the other three should provide something interesting for fans to keep an eye on.

Caamano made a decent run at a spot on the team last fall during training camp and pre-season before eventually being sent back down to the Flint Firebirds. He was traded during the season to the Hamilton Bulldogs, where he won the OHL Championship.
Dellandrea was his teammate in Flint before becoming the Stars’ surprise first draft pick this year. Dellandrea was predicted to go in the end of the first round or the beginning of the second, but the Stars used their 13th overall pick on him.
Hintz was a second-round pick in 2015, and he spent all of last season in Austin with the Texas Stars, where he had a great playoff run. He’s one of the most talked about prospects in the system, and he could be a potential call-up next season depending on how things go.
Two other players for fans to keep an eye on are Jason Robertson and Colton Point. Point and Oettinger could be the future goaltending tandem in Dallas, and both have a lot of potential. Goaltending depth and development has been a sore spot for the Stars, but that can hopefully change with these two.
Robertson hasn’t gotten the attention of some of the other prospects, but he’s starting to earn some talk recently. He was drafted in 2017 in the second round, and had an outstanding offensive year in the OHL last season. He played well enough that he even earned the #3 spot on DMN’s recent prospect rankings.
