The Dallas Stars prospects are in Traverse City playing in the annual tournament hosted by the Red Wings. This afternoon, they’ll play in their last game at 3:30 EDT.

The Dallas Stars went 2-1 over the tournament, earning them third place in the Ted Lindsay division.

The tournament opened with a 7-5 win over the Rangers last Friday. On Saturday, they lost 3-1 to the Red Wings.

After two days, all of the teams in the Lindsay division were at a 1-1 record with a zero goal differential. No one played on Sunday, and the seeding was decided yesterday.

Yesterday’s match saw the Stars face off against the Wild. Jason Robertson scored the first goal in the game, but the Wild answered with three goals of their own before Robertson notched another one.

The Stars tied the game in the third and then took a late lead on a pair of Miro Heiskanen goals, but the Wild made it 4-4 with less than a minute left in the game. The match continued into a scoreless overtime and eventually a shootout.

Ultimately, the Wild came out on top in the shootout, so they will move on and play the third place game against the Blackhawks. The Stars ended with a 1-2 record.

Today’s fifth place game will be against the Carolina Hurricanes, who also went 1-2 over the tournament. Fans should keep an eye on Andrei Svechnikov during the game, who has played well for the Hurricanes this tournament. That’s not particularly surprising, as he was this year’s second overall draft pick. Their other recent first-round draft picks are in attendance, including Jake Bean and Julien Gauthier from the 2016 class and Martin Necas from the 2017 class.

So far, the Stars have gotten a standout tournament from Heiskanen in what is his first and last Traverse City tournament. That’s a positive sign from the 2017 third overall pick, who will be making the jump to the NHL roster this fall. His two goals yesterday kept the Stars in the game, and he’s shown off his good vision during the games.

Robertson had a good game yesterday as well, and had a four-point night on Friday, as he continues to earn buzz about his play. Colton Point also showed off his potential, providing some optimism for Stars fans who have been frustrated with goaltending depth and development. He’s not ready to move to the NHL back-up job or anything, but he’s developing well and he’ll get to that point eventually.

This afternoon’s match can be streamed on the Fox Sports app for fans wanting to follow along. Even though they aren’t playing for the championship, it’s good experience for the players and some good exposure to fans wanting to watch them.
