The Dallas Stars will begin their 2018 training camp excursion on Friday morning in Boise, Idaho. It’s a three-day slate that will be filled with plenty of excitement and decision-making. Here is the roster and schedule for the weekend.
The Dallas Stars hosted their annual media day on Thursday morning in Frisco. It’s a chance for the media to chat with players, coaches, and personnel before the team departs for training camp. In addition, it’s also a chance for storylines to breed in time for camp.
This year, the Stars are heading to Boise, Idaho for their training camp session. The camp will last for three days and will be hosted at the home of the Idaho Steelheads, the ECHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars.
Training camp is the unofficial signal that NHL hockey is back. In each passing year, the lull from mid-July to late August takes a serious toll on hockey fans. Little to no action happens on the ice, the news off of the ice is inconsistent and relatively stale, and the overall hockey vibe is dumbed down.
But that all disappears when training camp comes back around. And this year, the Dallas Stars will begin their training camp session with plenty of motivation and unique expectations.

This year’s camp will have a bit of a different look and feel to it, though. For instance, the schedule has a different outline and certain restrictions. In addition, the roster fronts almost 60 players that will all look to give their best effort and put themselves in the best possible position going into the season ahead.

As you can see, it’s a new layout and new format to how training camp will run. Seeing the team on only one of the three days definitely doesn’t settle well with fans who have already planned trips to Idaho, but it’s a process that must be adjusted to.
In addition, the roster will feature a total of 59 players for the three-day tournament. That is broken down into 35 forwards, 19 defensemen, and five goaltenders. The roster boasts a decent mixture of NHL, AHL, ECHL, OHL, and even college-level talent that will all be competing for spots and ranking.
