The Dallas Stars have had a pretty successful preseason so far, going 4-0-1 to start, but the Blues handed them their first loss in regulation tonight, moving them to 4-1-1.

Of course, most Dallas Stars fans (and NHL fans in general) just want it to be October already, but there’s still one more preseason game to go before the points start to matter.

The most noteworthy thing about tonight’s game was Landon Bow, who played the whole game. Bow is jockeying for position in the Stars’ goaltending depth, and he’s had a great camp and preseason so far.

Bow split starts with Mike McKenna last year in the AHL and he’ll be headed down there again before the season starts, but he could very well be the first call-up if the Stars need it. Anton Khudobin is already not at 100% before the season, so it could be sooner rather than later that Bow’s services are needed.

Despite good goaltending, the Stars looked like they were feeling the drag of traveling to St. Louis this morning. They could never quite catch their footing, getting outshot early and taking penalties they shouldn’t have.

After going down 2-0, Montgomery pulled Bow, and Blake Comeau scored shortly after to break Jake Allen’s shutout. However, with Bow still pulled, Vladimir Tarasenko scored the empty-netter, his second point of the night. Jaden Schwartz had the assist to cap off his impressive showing for the Blues, with a 1-goal, 3-point night.

Also of note in tonight’s game was Tyler Seguin’s return. After missing the last four preseason games, he didn’t put any points on the board, but he had some good chances and it was good to see him back on the ice for any worried fans.

While Seguin’s back and Khudobin’s still out, there’s still one other injured player unaccounted for. Stephen Johns was absent from tonight’s game and hasn’t been practicing recently either. If he’s not ready for opening night, there’s a chance Gavin Bayreuther takes his spot in the line-up for the first game.

There’s still one more game before the preseason is over and the Stars can finally get to work earning points. The last preseason match is on Sunday against the Avalanche at 5:00 p.m.

There’s less than a week until opening night, so there will also be a few more roster cuts coming over the next few days as the Stars see which injuries will affect opening night and which players will be ready to go.
