The 2018-19 NHL season started last night with four games, but the Dallas Stars will finally open their new season at home this evening.

It will be the eighth year in a row that the Dallas Stars have opened in their own barn.

There will be a Victory Green Carpet Walk event again this year starting at 3:00 PM this afternoon. This event is open to fans without a ticket, so even if you don’t have one for tonight, you’re welcome to watch the players arrive and walk the carpet.

For fans attending the game, there will be something new this year as the Stars introduce a light show app for the pre-game show. It’s available in both the iOS and Android stores, so be sure to download it early if you don’t want to risk being at the mercy of the often spotty Wi-Fi in the arena.

More from Blackout Dallas

Tonight will be Jim Montgomery’s first official test as the new Stars head coach since replacing Ken Hitchcock over the summer. The team did well in preseason, but that doesn’t mean much when it comes to the regular season.

Tonight will also be the first regular season game for the new broadcasting team of Josh Bogorad and Daryl Reaugh. Reaugh is moving back to the color commentary chair while Bogorad moves from doing pre- and post-game show to calling play-by-play. Both have been with the Stars broadcasting team for a long time now, but it’ll be interesting to see how their chemistry pans out this season.

Dallas Stars Injury Report

Martin Hanzal: Hanzal will start the year on injured reserve, as expected. He’s currently scheduled to return around early December.

Stephen Johns: The Stars confirmed yesterday that Johns is suffering from post-traumatic headaches. He was placed on retroactive injured reserve after missing part of the preseason. He won’t play tonight, but his retroactive IR is far enough back that it allows him to be activated as soon as he feels he’s ready to play again.

Valeri Nichushkin: After missing the last few practices, it came out that Nichushkin has a lower-body injury. He won’t play tonight, but it doesn’t sound like a long-term injury, as he may play Saturday.

Arizona Coyotes Injury Report

Josh Archibald: Archibald will start the season on IR after a lower-body injury, and he’s week-to-week for now.

Jakob Chychrun: Chychrun will also start the season on IR following surgery on his ACL this past spring. He missed time at the start of the 2017-18 season with a knee injury as well.

Christian Dvorak: Dvorak started the year with the team in the preseason, but after a lower-body injury in training camp, he’s going to be on IR as well.

Alex Galchenyuk: After trading Max Domi to Montreal, the Coyotes won’t be able to use their new center to start the season, as Galchenyuk will be a fourth Arizona player starting the season on IR, all of whom are without a projected return date.

The Stars will finally face their first test of the new season tonight, but they need to be careful not to take it lightly just because it’s against a team with a lot of injuries that’s struggled in recent years.
