The Dallas Stars are 3-1-1 so far on their six-game road trip with one last game to play tonight before heading home.

Last night, the Dallas Stars lost in overtime against the Bruins, but they’ll have a chance to bounce back quickly with a win tonight in Columbus.

Before the road trip, Jim Montgomery said he wanted the team to go .500. They’ve already exceeded that expectation, but another win would certainly help things.

The Stars are also back in a playoff spot after last night’s game, sitting at third in the Central going into tonight’s games.

More from Blackout Dallas

It’s still very early to put a lot of stock into where exactly the team is in the standings when so many teams are bunched up, but they’re staying in the mix, which is the most important thing.

It’s a good day to reflect on how things are going for Jim Montgomery this season, with two coaching changes in the last few days. The Kings changed coaches over the weekend after a terrible start, but Joel Quenneville was fired this morning in a more shocking move from the Blackhawks. Mike Yeo has also put himself on the hot seat after the Blues had a rough start.

As for Montgomery, there are growing pains as the team adjusts to yet another new system again this year, but things are feeling positive right now. It was a risky decision to bring in someone who hadn’t coached at the NHL level before, but he appears to be thriving in the environment.

The team also seems to genuinely like and respect him, which is more than can be said for another team that made headlines last night. Of course, private conversations in an Uber filmed without consent are far different from speaking in interviews, but Stars players have gone out of their way to talk about how great they feel Montgomery is doing.
